Wavetrac posi, how to tell?
My Mercedes SLK32 AMG will pit down 2 nice black lines and start to go sideways, all signs of posi from all cars i have owned but who knows with a mercedes. My car does seem to have all 4 fenders rolled also, normal or no? Thanks guys, mark
before wavetrac: upon heavy throttle, right rear tire lights up, car slips right without moving forward, stabilization software applies brakes, car bogs down, software lets go of the brakes, you are sitting there watching people smirk at your inauspicious st vitus dance.
after wavetrac: upon heavy throttle, no tire lights up, stabilization software is MIA unless you've modded the car or have bald tires. IF modded, then stabilization lights blink briefly and car stays in straight line. No dancing just going. If you floor it in first/second in a modded car, then both tires spin but as long as you're pointed straight ahead you can let off the throttle a bit and all will be well mannered.
Others may have differential experience ;-)

Well. It sure acts like it has it. I would think if on a lift if one wheel was held the other should not turn, make sense? It lays 2 black lines just like a posi car would. No power is held back that is for sure. With a regular tire like Sumitomo it lays a very long pair and leaves a ton of smoke. Tougher to do so with the TOYO PROXES R888's I have but with a heavy brake torque I can leave a couple of lines. Also this SLK had rolled fenders, all 4 corners unless that is something stock, I have to find another to check that out, thx.
Chuk, no receipt!

If it IS a wavetrac, you can easily tell by jacking one rear tire off the ground (use a floor jack and orient its wheels such that the car can roll forward) and then carefully give it a SMALL amount of throttle. If it is a wavetrac, the tire on the ground will still propel the car forward. A stock diff will just spin the tire that is in the air (as well most other non-wavetrac LSD diffs). To test if it is a non-wavetrac LSD (Quaife, for example), try putting one tire in a puddle of soapy water or in soft dirt and have someone observe as you do a mild " brake stand".

After wavetrac, both tires light up; car veers sideways and jumps two lanes. Scares the **** out of me, but I'm still smiling....
Haha! Are you stock or modded?
so...sweet2002
Im new to this forum. I see your old post about posi.. I wonder about mine ... It also lays down 2 signatures on my driveway... Since your post, what have found out ? also what tires would you suggest?
Thanks
Mishkin

ditto all the above - but I have had a couple of unnerving experiences when stomping on it with ESP (traction) still engaged and the engine brakes suddenly - I figured the SC clutch disengages or something..since then I always launch/challenge with ESP off.
As for the rolled guards....possibly sign the car was previously moded they dropped all the nice bits off to make some extra cash and make the buyer think they have bought a quiet drivers history.
Pull up some car sale adds for SLK32s and maybe you'll get an idea of the "stock" condition from those. If I can I'll post some pics of mine = stock guards.

yes - I'm always on the lookout for a "better" SLK32.
I would swap the diffs if I found one...although that would retain the older gears (80k miles) - this wavetrak cost my near $2,200 all up. Just have to remeber if its slip in or bolt on....

Mr. pig's ride is now mine, and yes he spared no expense in making this a rocket and road course ready. Not only that, he lowered it with Eibachs and Coni's then installed 18's all the way around which puts the center of gravity somewhere near China.
Very stealthy!
Thanks Don
