Default Rotors Slotted and Drilled

Hi Guys,

I went on a drive with the Colorado Crossfire club and noticed that their SRTs had slotted and drilled rotors. However mine does not! Did they all come that way and my SRT is missing them?
BTW, a great group of people.

I have cross drilled rotors, not a fan of slotted since the slotted rotors glaze the pads.

Not a fan of neither since they are not needed unless you autocross your car regularly. Mainly for looks.
Drilled ones develop cracks around the holes.

Never had a crack on drilled rotors, never had a warped rotor with drilled either.

Alot of holes, alot of deep grooves, looks like that person wore his pads down to steel.

Here are mine, about 1 1/2 yrs old and 40k miles
Front and rear.

It hasn't been proved to my satisfaction that drilled and/or slotted rotors do any good, for appearance only. I do think that they look nice but in my mind, not worth the expense.

Drilled give extra bite BUT will develop cracks from the heat IF you push them, and I mean hard. Slotted give gasses and dust from the pads an outlet (not really a problem) and extra bite IF you push them, and I mean race track hard. They have a following and I like them too. They look all business. I'm on my 3rd set of Stoptech rotors on the front. (spider cracking from heat) Same slotted rotors on the back for years. (the front does most of the stopping) Plain, slotted, drilled, or drilled and slotted will all crack with enough heat and abuse. I've read about the plusses an negatives of the options. Based on my experience hardly anyone will use their brakes hard enough on the street to damage whichever is used. You will overheat the stock brake fluid and get a soft pedal long before overheating the rotors. So pick your favorite style and be happy. (plain is preferred for racing ….. more material to absorb heat)

That rotor has surface cracks everywhere, so of course the holes would attract cracks. Cracks will naturally start in changes of structure, had the holes been rounded and polished would it be less likely to start cracking at the holes.

?? These rotors look like they were 'home' drilled. Notice the number on the 2 left rows (5 then 6)? Then the number reduces on the rest. Looks like a DIY drilling to me.

They do look home fabricated. Plus there appears to be no chamfer around the bored holes.

I personally plan to switch to slotted rotors (fronts only), only for pure 100% appearance.
