Default Crank bolt help!!!

Hey guys I've pulled trigger on installing the 185mm pulley on my 6. Everything is on and ready to be torqued except for one problem.. the new oem crank bolt given to me does not fit the 185mm pulley that I received .. it is wayyyy to short. Ive contacted eurocharged and still waiting for them to chime in but in the mean time anyone here with past experience or with the correct bolt ?

No knowledge here. My 178 came with a new stock bolt. A 185 is foreign to me. I know E/C will be quick in getting you what you need. They always have for me when needed. Best of luck and a quick resolution.

Can you use the old bolt. They really don't wear out.

They are supposed to be replaced after one use, they are tightened in the extreme and they get stretched. You do not want one of these failing on you.

I tightened mine to 150 ft. lbs. plus 90º. It wasn't easy to hold the pulley or torque it down. A 2 person job for most.

I have rebuilt many a engines and have reused many a crank bolts with higher yet torque specs and have never had a crank bolt failure. My two cents worth.

When the instructions say to replace the bolt after one use it is best to repeat that here in case someone reuses the bolt and it fails. Woody had one fail if I recall and the results were not pretty.

Talking Re: Crank bolt help!!!

My bolt did not fail........WORSE it backed out, so Id use blue locktight....NOT RED thread locker.

The bolt story is that it is stretched and factory recommends new one. I have used bolts again and go 10% above factory torque with thread locker after mine backed out and the pully FLEW off.

Be safe and do what your comfortable with, your responsible..... WDY

We used the new oem bolt. It was needed to be machined down around the edge for it to fit in the 185 pulley . New custom bolt went in perfect. But as yall said it's for sure a 2 person job. One to torque the bolt and the other to pin the flywheel.. and a bit of muscle. The car now is an absolute beast..

Good news - got there in the end.....probably too late now, but...it would be good to show a pick of where you got in to pin the fly wheel.
MB have apparently got a specific tool for this "locking" job. Good to know how to get away without it.
