Default Gearbox speed sensor (P0500)

Can this be replaced easily or, as a Chrysler breaker has told my garage, does the whole gearbox really have to be changed...?!
Can't believe that's true, but it's what he said!
Previously:
BAS/ESP, ABS, Check Engine lights coming on - intermittently at first, then pretty consistently.
Car driving OK, except for cruise control not working.
Replaced 2 x ABS sensors which were testing faulty but lights still on after clearing codes.
Now seems the gearbox speed sensor needs replaced, hence above question.
Any help much appreciated...!

The speed sensor is mounted on the electrical plate located just above the sump pan. Remove the pan, remove the plate and replace the sensor if required.
Or you could do as they say for thousands of pounds more. LOL

I'll see if I can find a picture of it.
What codes are being set, find out before spending any money.

Thank you - will get the other codes from the garage.
Their code readers would not give enough detailed info so they took it to the Chrysler main dealer for clarification.
The yaw sensor was also suspected at some point...

OK, in addition to P0500, we have C1120 & C1142 (latter subject to confirmation)
C1120 seems to relate to gearbox speed sensor.
Failing that, they say the next thing to check will be the yaw sensor.

The P0500 relates to the Vehicle Speed sensor and is to do with the PTCM and the ABS system.
Not a speed sensor on its own.

Silly me - I knew that, hence the title...

Now looks most likely to be the Speed Sensor - but Chrysler are estimating at least 2 weeks to get one from the US (I haven't driven the damn thing for at least two months and Summer's rapidly running out!) - so would like to see if a MB equivalent would be suitable - and hopefully available quicker.
BUT the garage say they can't read the part# - without which it can't be ordered with confidence.
SO - can anyone help with a MB equivalent part # - which obviously must be compatible with an SRT6...??

It does not refer to the gearbox but you knew that.

So why use the word gearbox then.
It refers to the lack of a signal to the parts I mention in my post, there should be other DTC codes with it.
It is an informational DTC for a problem which has its own code and
originates elsewhere .
I will not bother to point you in the right direction as you know that.

I was told that P0500 refers to 'Gearbox Speed Sensor' - hence using it in the title - but if that's wrong, obviously I didn't know THAT!
Please forgive my ignorance, what's DTC (codes?) and PTCM ( -- -- Control Module?) ??

At the risk of boring repetition, this all started with intermittent BAS/ESP, ABS & Check Engine lights, which led to 2 x ABS sensors being replaced (which did need doing) but then, after a visit to Chrysler, the (gearbox?) speed sensor was also showing as faulty.
Apart from the lights, the only outward sign of a problem was lack of cruise control.
The real problem seems to be it's the blind leading the blind (me and my garage) - they are doing their best with sometimes insufficient code-reading equipment and (as far as I can tell), possibly not getting full story from the Chrysler stealership who presumably DO have the right gear...

Except that P0500 (and as mentioned previously C1120 & C1142), relates to the 'speed sensor' which apparently is mounted on or near the gearbox.
But it will take at least two weeks for Chrysler to get one from the US, hence looking for a suitable MB equivalent.
So, if that's the right thing to do, can you - or anyone - help with a MB part # as it is not legible on the car, so the MB parts chap cannot be confident he would be ordering the right part!
He could just order the SLK32AMG part but it may not be compatible with Chrysler electronics, so confirmation of part # would seem sensible...

If you take a crossfire to a dealership, bring money... LOTS of money. You may find out they either cannot fix it or convince you to buy a new car (especially when the cost they have on the invoice is way above the price you want to pay)....

Peruse the forum, for why!
