Supercharger shim size and harsh engagement
So I recently replaced the bearing on my aftermarket 65mm pulley.
Could be coincidence but ever since, I hear a "metal" sound when the Supercharger engages. Could be a chirp but sounds more like a rattle.
At the same time, it just seems like it's a harsher engagement. So I checked the pulley gap. If memory serves me correctly it's supposed to be between 0.25mm-0.35mm.
It's closed at the moment but it's not rubbing on the magnetic plate.
1) What is the correct gap?
2) I never needed a shim before and I cannot find the shims that came with the OEM pulley. What is the thickness and size (diameter) of the OEM shims? I want to have some made just in case. My machine shop will make them for free
3) Is the harsh, jerky engagement a problem? Some people think as long as the backing plate is not rubbing against the magnet, life is good?
Should the measurement be taken when components are hot or cold?
Do you guys take sandpaper to the backing plate to smooth it out?
For some reason I feel like power is gone. But maybe I'm just imagining that.
Thanks for all your tips.
Nick
