i expressed my concerns before in regard to their (groit's) clay leaving residue on my cars surface... but thought i would give it a try again today...

this stuff is crap... what mess. i had to use a solvent & brush to get it off my hands... to the trash it goes...

Hey Andrew...where are your gloves? Doesn't change that the stuff is crap, but it would have saved your hands, eh!? Happy Independence Day.

Have you contacted Griot's? I've been using their clay for years and it's the best I've used by far, this is the first time I've ever heard anything like this about their clay on any detailing forum.

If you lubricate improperly, I can see this happening (which, by the way, their Speed Shine is the best detailing spray and clay lubricant out there) - I've never had their clay leave residue except when I didn't have the surface lubricated well (user error on my part). If you spray the clay and the paint surface it is completely easy to use and leaves no residue at all - I even have their foam holder for the my orbital, works great and can clay in no time flat - cannot even begin to have it work well with the others you mention.

Give them a call and let them know what you experienced - they unconditionally guarantee all of their products, which is likely more than what you'll get from the other manufacturers.

edit:
Just to be clear, not questioning your experience, just pointing out that their customer service is really great - can't go wrong with a "no questions asked" guarantee...

Don't know what you are doing but I too have been using this product for years now and can't say anything bad about it.

Wow, that stuff is crap.
I have been a fan of Zaino since i bought my PT in 2000. I have had great results with their clay. In addition, i don't use spray detailer when i clay. I use a capful of their car wash solution mixed into a spray bottle with water. Works great and is a heck of a lot cheaper than using up a bottle of $8 detailer.
Plus the Zaino clay costs less than the Griots.

I won't fault anyone for having favorite products, but gotta call you out on the cost: per ounce, Griot's costs $2.50, Zaino is $4.24 - you only get 4 oz for $16.95 with Zaino, 8 oz for $19.95 with Griot's. I haven't found a better deal for clay than Griot's...

And I'm not a Griot's fanboy, I just like their products and the unconditional guarantee - if I don't like something for any reason within 6 months, I can return it and get my money back, plus a lifetime guarantee against defects.

Not knocking Zaino or any others, because I've seen beautiful results from a lot of products, but I don't see that guarantee on other sites.

I called Griot's and they are not aware of any production issues with the clay - call them at 800-345-5789 and see if they can help...

My bad (i guess), i didn't look at weights, i just know that i get 2 bars with the zaino and they hold up very well. The zaino gives you two 2 oz bars, whereas the griots gives you one 8 oz.

Andrew, I thought I told you to wear gloves when using the Griots bar. Yes its true that its stickier than the others out there, i.e. Meguiar's, but IMO it picks up a lot more because of it and when you use the lube, well, it slides across VERY easy. I've tried many clay bars out there over the past 5 years (ok, maybe 3) but I feel the Griots is the best.

I'm surprised you had trouble with the Griots clay bar. Griots is all I use and I've never had a problem. Im kind of wondering if you got a bad batch as well. I've even clay bar'd a black car in direct sunlight. Yep, it was hot but I think the hotter the better with the griots clay bar. If its cold outside forget it. Griots clay seems to have to be warm and use tons of speed shine. I'd be inclined to contact griots for a refund or replacement myself. This all just shows how much we like these cars doesn't it? :-)

Five year old post, most are probably not here anymore 'cept Andrew. I wonder what he used as a lubricant, something from the bedside table?

Andrew, what did you use for a lubricant with this clay? I'm really surprised to see this, unless you used some sort of soap instead of a quick detail spray as some clays just don't play well with some soaps. When they don't play well, they do exactly what your pictures show, which is why I ask.

As for product guarantees, Meguiar's offers a 100% money back guarantee on everything we make. If you're not happy for any reason at all, just call the number on the back of any bottle of product and talk to our guys. They'll either send you a replacement product or get you a refund. If you don't have your receipt just email them a picture of the product to prove you have it and that's good enough for "proof of purchase" in our book.

~ meguiars 34 / quik detailer - mist & wipe spray.

i'm a veteran when it comes to detailing cars... additionally, the clay bar was new from griots (used the same week of arriving in the mail). perhaps a bad batch? either way i won't try it again.

i will stick with mequiars clay products... this is what i use:
