Default Orbital Polisher or Not !!!

Hey folks,
The more I keep looking at purchasing a Random Orbital Polisher and all the accessories, the price just keeps adding up and up. Im looking at $250 easy to get thing started. What I would really like to know is. Is it worth it? or have I got hung up in the marketing game of the manufactures? I just bought a new 2006 Crossfire this summer. Once I got it home, I clay bar'd the car, hand polished and waxed. It shines like a new penny. Will I get any more out of the Orbital Polisher? Will I get $250 more shine? or am I being to synical.

Love to hear the thoughts of those who own one.

Thanks allot for you input on how I should spend my hard earned money. haha.

Thanks,
Stingray662

Porter Cable 7424 - can't go wrong and very hard to harm the car/paint - nowhere near $250 either. Search, amazon or similar you'll find a lot cheaper.

The orbital polishers do a great job of getting rid of swirlmarks and fine scratches. I am going to assume your Xfire is not black. You probably would not be asking if it was black. The darker the color the more those fine "spider" lines appear, espcially in the sun.

You can find them on sale like the Meguiar's special, Griot's Garage and more. Just like cleaning brands, everyone has their own opinions. If you can't see the swirls and your car is light colorled, wait if you want to. But when you go for it, you won't be disappointed.

A good friend of mine gave me all kinds of crap when I told him that I only washed my cars at home and had invested some $400 (initially) when I purchased my PC7424, pads, polishes, etc. He flat out called me a fool. So we went outside, rolled up our sleeves...............and compared cars.

For this money I can maintain 3 vehicles for a couple of years. He takes his car, a BMW 540i, to the car wash every week and spends a measly $12 for a full service wash. Add in the tip and he's $15 out of pocket. I did the math for him - $15 x 26 car washes (a little over six months worth since he doesn't go every single week, but just about) comes to $390. Even if he only went once every two weeks, at the end of a year he has spent the same money I did. What's the difference? I maintain 3 cars for 2 years for the same money (and this includes the initial one time only $119 cost of the 7424!!!) he spends on one car in a 6 to 12 month period. So financially I'm waaaay ahead of him. But the important thing is my cars are completely swirl free and his.....looks like crap. Swirls all over the place, the thing looks horrible in bright sunlight and the paint and trim just look dull and lifeless.

The best part is he is now willing to pay me to fully polish the paint on his car and bring it back to the shine and lustre it deserves. Silly boy.

Hating the GA drought. Cant save much of any cash by doing it myself. If we ever get some water ban lifts I can start detailing all my cars again. Funny how we went from an extremely wet season straight into one of the worse droughts.
