My next car was a new American sedan. It had the standard old "new car" smell, and that faded after a few months.

When shopping for my Crossfire, I knew I'd found the right one for me (among other things) because I sat in it, took a deep breath, and there it was - that same scent.

I've never smelled it anywhere else, and I'd love to find out what it is so I can keep it going. So it seems to occur in used German sport coupes bought from a dealer. Pretty restrictive category, but I'm willing to bet it has something to do with "used" and "dealer" - likely a sterilizing agent of some sort used during the reconditioning process.

Does anyone else know what I'm talking about? Or am I just a little insane?

Any idea where I can get some more? (of the scent, not insanity).

I had this same smell when I bought my 6 this past Oct. They detailed car for me before leaving dealership and I thought it may have been some carpet scent they added while vacuming. Mine smelt sort of like pinacolada, honey and musk. It is still very prominent for now. I think it comes from the Alantra Seude seats.

Yes. I came across a fine leather jacket on a young woman recently, and it had exactly the same smell as the car. It smells nothing like leather-in-a-bottle or a leather store in the mall. But it smells so good.

I got nuttin.

If you are talking about the infamous VW smell, it is identical to crayons. I have been told by manyJetta people that it is actually from the doors. That is why even the cloth seated VW's have the same scent. My SRT has the same smell, just much more faint. Its a mix between leather and crayola.

I usually can get that smell to come back after doing about 80mph on highway for about 15min and then let car sit with windows up in garage. Come out next morning and it's back.! I guess it airs the car out.

Try some Zaino leather treatment, really nice leather smell that lingers for a day or two.
