stuff on my new 2005 coupe
yes, it sounds weird, but i got a 2005 blk 6speed coupe (a bit over a week ago) with only 250 miles on it from a smaller dearler in nys. I went to one of my local auto place and got some mothers leather cleaner, car wash, canuba wax, microfiber cloths and one of those weird cloths that's kinda like a chamois. As I start to wash the car, I can feel all this "stuff" on it- almost like bubbles- the soap didn't take it off- it's on the upper surfaces of the car (lowest parts of the door are free of this stuff) i almost think it's tree sap- I also started to see alot of swirls and micro scratches on the car (I'm a quality control mgr, and anything that seems "wrong" drives me absolutely CRAZY!!!) Needless to say, I did not wax the car. Should I get a polish with a mild abrasive to get the stuff off and minimize the scratches-does this seem like the right thing to do?
The car is going to the dealership next saturday for a few things to be fixed already- In the forums opinion, should i bring up the fact that the car (being sold as new) has this "stuff" on it? or should i just deal with it?
any input is greatly appreciated.

I use the Adam's products almost exclusively. Here's what I would do;
You will be amazed at the results. I'm sure others have their favorite products that work well for them.
- Clay the car (very important step)
- Use Adams Swirls Remover
- Use Adams Machine Polish
- Apply Adams Machine Super Wax

Have to agree - Clay the car.
I like Meguiars Pro - available in agressive and mild versions.
Second would be Zaino, then Mothers and Meguiars store packs.
Next loose that fake chamios - get a good quality waffle weave m/f drying towel. You need some nap in the material to lift residual dirt from the surface when drying. (Critical on black to avoid swirl/scratches)
Since yours sounds pretty fresh you may get away with hand removing the swirls - if not then get the PC polisher.
Then ZAINO ZAINO ZAINO.
PS....I would not let the dealer touch the paint!

I disagree. If this turns out to be paint damage and you use all these products before pointing out the problem to the dealer, then they may give you grief. At least, point out the "stuff" that is on or in the paint to the dealer, then if they don't want to send it to the paint shop, NOT the clean-up guy, I would follow the above advice....

This does not sound like a paint flaw it is clearly something on the paint and can it be proven the spots where there when purchased?
Dealer may try to clean it up but odds are you can do FAR better yourself.
I would at least try some of the above, on at least a small spot, to see if you can clean it off. (IMO)
I wanted to thank you all for your advise and suggestions-
I used the clay bar- nothing- so I figured I was doing something wrong-
I had the car detailed and NOTHING took it off (even thinner)- it's some kind of overspray (we did get it off the windshield though- so that was good)- basically now we can easily see the car has an "orange peel" appearance- end result- i'm just gonna drive it and enjoy it- in a couple of years (in the area i'm in, i'm sure it will get a ding here and there- only solution would be to wrap it in bubble wrap to drive it- now that would be a sight!) i'll go for a custom paint job-i'm thinking 2 tone bugatti style (pearl white and orange!)
It actually stopped raining- i'm taking my car out for a drive before the hail starts!
thanks again-

Here is a thought. I have a well for watering the lawn and if you let the water stay on the paint it will cause an orange peel effect. The only way to get if off was to wet sand it with 2000 grid sandpaper and buff it out. The well water in Cape Coral Florida has a bit of sulpher in it and it is hard on the paint. It eats through the wax rather quickly.
I would let the dealer mess with it first.
Any updates to this interesting thread? If I were you, I'd get a clay bar and play with it yourself to see if you can remove it. Then, if it doesn't come off, get the dealer to pay for somebody to properly remove the paint imperfections. I'd NEVER let ANY car dealer wash my car, let alone detail it. And if they do, they would probably use a glaze to hide everything and then charge you an arm and a leg for it.
