Default Lawn care people

Well this is just outstanding.

This whole strip of houses is owned by one realty company that rents them all out, so they just have a few guys come through with lawn care stuff and do the entire line of houses. They came by today, and I didn't think anything of it. The crossfire is under a cover hiding from the pollen. They just do a basic mow the lawn and blow the grass off of the driveways. I didn't pay much attention and took the monte carlo to the post office. Didn't think anything of it, after all, the car is under a cover, so no big deal, right?

Wrong. A few hours later I was cleaning off my monte carlo and threw it under a cover as well. Just because I was curious as to how well the cover was keeping pollen out, I pulled the cover off of the crossfire. Starting at the back, I pulled up a bit and it looked good, just a tiny amount of pollen, nothing compared to being uncovered. Well, as I pulled the cover the rest of the way off, I saw a whole lot of crap sitting on the spoiler. Further removal revealed almost the entire car to be covered in grass, leaves, and a massive load of pollen.

Apparently while the lawn people were blowing off the drievway, they got the blower underneath the car and it started throwing all of this stuff around between the cover and the car (read paint). And when I pulled the cover off, all of that was sliding around. I hosed off the cover, and as gently as possible washed the piles of junk off of the car.

The sun was getting low, but I could see a ton of newly acquired swirl marks all over the car, mostly on the hood, roof, and spoiler.

So, sometime soon I get to do the whole buffing process over again. I usually leave with the crossfire when I see the people coming down the road, but this time I figured that it was under a cover so it wouldn't be a big deal. I was wrong.

I'll try to get some pictures of my brand new swirls tomorrow. I thought about getting pictures of all of the stuff on the car, but it was getting dark and I wanted to get it off as fast as possible.

Just wanted to complain. End rant.

As hard as our paint is, it's shocking that a bunch of blowing grass would "re-swirl" the finish.

But, stranger things have happened.

I kinda thought that as well. Of course the cover was probably "flapping" on the car which couldn't have helped matters.

What was surprising to me was the amount of stuff in there. Leaves, grass, even small twigs. It was so thick in spots I couldn't see the black underneath it.

Is your car cover custom-fitted, or a generic "compact car" version from a store?

In between. Not a crappy generic, but still not custom. Fits on pretty well though. It's much better than my true generic I have for the monte carlo.

Here's one version...

Not sure if they have an SRT-specific one though...

We have a lawn care company that services our office park. This is one of the reasons I walk to work, the car stays home in the garage. They don't care where they blow stuff. As a matter of fact if your car looks like it been cleaned you are the target for "the pile" that's all the crap they blow into a pile and it sits directly next to your clean car. They blow the grass, leaves, dirt all over every car in the lot but they seem to have a knack for picking the clean ones to stick with the piles. That means those cars get hit more than once. One day I watched one of them actually blow the mess off a car with his blower. A little sand blasting I guess. They take great pride in doing this. This past fall I was sitting in my office and I see them come into the parking lot, they were spraying something, they are always spraying and this large truck come in with a hose coming out of it and they procede to spray all the bushes that line the parking spaces in front of our office.. God only know what was in the spray and it goes all over the cars, they could care less. I call the management office and they come running out and stop the guy from spraying, he's already hit about 30 cars. He wasn't supposed to spray while there were cars in the lot. The guy driving the truck spoke little to no english (boy that's a surprise) and he was sent packing. So Mr. Lama and others I share your frustration.

Same story at my office, and the guys could care less. As others have stated, to some of them, it is a kind of revenge for you having a nice, clean car and they have a 15+ year old rusted pickup, I can almost hear them saying, "We'll teach him to have nice things...."

I do not have the luxury of being able to walk to work or park far enough away where they can not get me, so I have to take it. There is a layer of dust on my car so thick after 1 day of not washing, that I am afraid to even use the california duster for fear of scrathing the paint

I feel your pain.

If you have the OEM, or a fitted cover you will not see that happen as they are snug. I think your swirls are more from the rubbing of the cover. The dust that gets under the cover makes it even worse. When I mow my grass, I always put the cover on, and blow my garage floor clean. When I take my cover off, the car is as clean as when I put the cover on.

The picture John posted is of my OEM cover over my car. They do sell an SRT version.

That's the benefit of a snug cover.

Lawn care people,

Yikes! They seem to be able to mess-up everything they get near.
And that includes the lawn

Hardness of paint and scratch resistance are two very different things. One involves the abrading and leveling of the paint, the other is cutting into it. Think about cutting a "scratch" into a stick of butter and a piece of steak. With a good, sharp knife it's pretty easy to do both. I'm not talking about cutting through either one of them, just cutting a little tiny bit into them.

Now try to make both of them level again by lightly dragging a non serrated butter knife across the surface. It's ridiculously easy with the stick of butter, but I defy you to do it with the steak.

I've got an OEM cover and it is first class; however, last winter I had it on and found it was trapping moisture.
What the?
