Default Working on the Monte

Started working today on my monte carlo. It'll go back to my parents in a few weeks, so I figured I'd get started now and just work on it in my spare time, one panel at a time. Plus, with the recent wreck, it has a few new body panels that aren't swirled, which makes my job easier.

Started on the front right today, since the sun was pointing at it. It's hard to see the swirls on the white car without direct sunlight.

But anyway, I did the same process as on my crossfire. I clayed it, then buffed, then polish and wax.

I managed to forget before pictures but I have after ones. It is 10 years old and has never had this done, so it's in pretty rough shape. You can see in the first picture where I have and haven't done it (I hope you can at least, as a hint, it's the opposite side of the line ) Around the reflection of the sun closest to the camera, you can see all of the swirls, the rest of the car is/was at least that bad.

Starting to look good!

I'll post more pictures as I go. It's amazing how much more surface area this car has than the crossfire.

You are doing a great job. I just did a 79 Lincoln Cartier edition. Car had two year old hardened sap all over the roof, trunk and hood. Knowing what the guy wanted to spend I didn't go so far as to do the swirls but he left with a smile on his face so I guess he was happy. Apparently the car sat under a couple of pine trees for a year before he moved it to his house.
I had to use gas to get the sap off. The interior had an entire lawn bag full of trash, I've never seen such disrespect for a car.

Patpur, if you run into this again-use turpentine to remove pine sap. Turp is made from pine tar and is the most efficient solvent for it. And a bit safer.

Mr. Lama came to see me yesterday (just to wish me happy old age. Punk!) and he is very proud of his work. And rightly so. He appreciates how good a clean, new appearing car can make one feel.

Kudos, kid!

Looking good once again! You're a quick study, no doubt.

Thanks guys!!

Finished the hood and the driver's side quarter panel today. Due to class interrupting, I don't have pictures with the sun in the same place, but you get the idea.

Before:

And after. (the front piece there that is cracked all apart is hopefully getting replaced soon. I think old age got to it, and it has been slowly getting worse)

And here's the side. No swirls on the hood!

It's really hard to take pictures of swirls (and now the lack of them) on this white surface. But at the right angle, they were everywhere. Not anymore though!!

Next step is the front bumper, and then the roof, and then doors. So a bit more work to go, but it's going pretty quick.

You've given me hope I can take care of some of the deep stuff on my Buick. Now that the wife's Jag is in the shop I've got room in the garage to do a practice run on minez ... then try to get hers looking nice before Moms' Day

Finally finished the roof today. It was horrible, don't know what happened to it compared to the hood and other parts, but it was twice as bad at least. Took several times going over to finally get rid of them, and there are some I still couldn't get. But other than a couple here and there, it looks much better. Even with the sun barely poking through on the first picture you can see how bad it was.

Steven,

you need a girlfriend.

Or another job! Nice work. At least it's an honest endeavor!

Haha, my parents recently complained about me spending all of my time on the car, saying I was addicted to it. It wasn't too much work to convince them that there are worse things I could be doing.

Thanks for the words of encouragement max. However, how could I get a girlfriend with swirls all over the car???

Get a girlfriend witha swirly car. I have one, I should know. The bad thing about keeping YOUR car clean, is that she gets jealous and wants hers to look just as good.

But, it's a Honda. Not possible.

Exactly how nervous will you now be when you ask for advice?

Sure, we can work on your Monte's headlights. No problem!
