Default Micro pitting on windshield

Greetings forum,
I've searched and read numerous posts regarding the soft Pilkington winshield glass and the associated pitting that seems common. The consensus on the fix seems to be replacement of the windshield. DONE THAT. I live in the high desert (Ridgercrest, CA.) where swirling gusting dirt packed wind is the rule not exception. THe replacement OEM Pilikington windshield glass while not too bad yet is getting to the point where I need to take corrective action NOW. Have tried claying it (no joy) and Sonus glass/metal polish by hand vice Porter Cable (helped some). Does anyone have ANY suggestions for leveling, correcting, and protecting the windshield that DOESN'T involve replacement ??

I am considering replacing mine because its pitted pretty bad. I will try the 3m film which I had on my 350z and it kept my nose headlamps and windahield looking brand new.
