Default exhaust on rear bumper

Anyone have notice a large amount of exhaust on the rear bumper area? I know it won't show up on some of the darker color cars, but my white one gets covered. Regular washing won't take it off either and i have to use a 409 type cleaner and then go back with wax when i'm done. Am i crazy?

Could be the additives in the fuel.

are you referring to the little black or reddish specks that adhere to the paint especially on the back of the vehicle? i have an alabaster as well. i think it's more of a combination of brake dust and other foreign particles that stick to the paint. the reason they tend to adhere to the rear bumper area is because that is the least aerodynamic part of the car. there are lots of eddy currents that continuously bombard the paint with airborne particulates. some of the material actually bonds to the paint and is hard to remove. a clay bar followed by wax/polish is probably the best way to clean it. if you are talking about actual exhaust residue on the car it would be black only in the proximity of the exhaust. but exhaust residue generally isn't that hard to remove and should come off while washing the car. i have not noticed any exhaust residue on my bumper. if what you are seeing is actually from the exhaust you may have an issue with the engine or maybe you got a diesel by mistake.

I have an alabaster car also and don't notice any exhaust stains. I do notice a lot of crud does stick there though.

A bit off topic here, but when I installed my Magnaflow muffler the inside of my tips stayed clean for a long time, something to think about!

this happened to my old corvette (white) once i removed my converters. boy was it annoying...i used 409 as well.

i would have the dealer check your converters...just a thought. they may be going bad. harsh emission vapors may be passing through to your bumper area.

I have noticed the reddish specs and attribute that to tar and tire crap... wax takes it off pretty easy... but yeah, around the exhaust tips it gets dark if i don't wash it for a couple weeks. I drive it pretty hard too... and washing it usually takes it off... but after i used 409, it showed me how dark the bumper really was around the tips. But then again the Borla hasn't been on there long, and the darkness is getting less noticeable... might have been the new muffler burning out.

Haven't noticed any exhaust residue but I have a darker color. Tell you what I did do tho' I blacked out the inside of the tips with some black heat paint. They were kinda funky looking when I got the car and the black inside really sets off the chrome tips. It was a 10 minute mod that was easy and it really cleaned up the look.
