Default New Custom Exhaust - Thoughts?

Hello everyone,

I had a friend of mine who manages a Muffler shop unbolt the exhaust and custom fabricate what you see in the pics. No Muffler - I have to say, its not as loud as I thought. Sounds like a Vette, I think. I bought the Stainless steel tips on Ebay for $14.95 + shipping & he welded them on. What do you guys/gals think? The pic of the undercarriage was before it was welded up, thats why its crooked a little...perfectly straight now.

Hey hey, that's pretty nifty there!

I think I might try this, but will actually make a true duel set up.

Can you post a link to the ebay site with the tips?

How about a sound clip?

Looks good > that's thinking outside the box. A sound clip would be great! My first impression is it would sound raspy.

If he hasn't now he probably will. Not to mention doing such a thing decreases the amount of Back pressure possibly Detuning his Engine, which of course voids his 3/36 and 7/70 warranties. My suggestion... Put the muffler back on.

only thing he detuned is his sanity level on the highway with the extra noise...

having no muffler will not harm the car nor will it trip the computer in any way... the change in flow is not drastic enough to cause the AFR to swing more than the 25% adjustment in injector pulse width it has...

i really dislike how scared this community is to mess with these cars ... and the few that do usually get bashed for it with comments like "put the muffler back on".

I didn't bash him. He asked for peoples opinions. Hell the subject even says it (New Custom Exhaust - Thoughts)? So that's what I gave him. I in know way was trying to Bash him, I just gave him my thoughts. I just think its foolish to give our "beloved chrysler dealerships" (that's sarcasm by the way) an opportunity to not cover something under warranty.

its damn near impossible to get your warranty voided from an exhaust.

I would weld the factory tips on your custom exhaust. The factory tips are the best looking ones on this car.

perhaps bash was not the proper word... just meant to show the attitude on the forums is very discouraging at the very least... no disrespect of your opinion intended.

I appreciate everyone's thoughts, Thanks. I have not had the check engine light turn on...not drastic of a mod to do this. If i screwed with the O2 sensors (eg. removed-relocated them) then it probably would.

The reason I purchased new tips is because I did not want to modify the old exhaust system...just in case the dealership try's to pull a fast one. I can drop the old exhaust back in the car in minutes. 3 bolts and a couple of hangars...BTW, the rear rubber hangers say "AMG" on them...I thought that was cool.

I will try to get a sound clip soon.

I don't see how you need back-pressure on a forced induction motor. You are not sucking are in, you are pushing it in so the easier it is to get it out the better I would think. Part throttle situations would be different but even then it would be minute.

Not true. Depending on how stingy your dealer wants to be, putting in K&N air filters can completely void your warranty. Any modification to the vehicles drive components that changes the engines performance can void your warranty. Example: A good friend of mine has K&N filters in his TL type s. One day his transmission started slipping on him, so he brought it to the Acura dealer to check it out. If it were not for the fact that I knew the service writer, the service manager would have voided the entire powertrain warranty of the vehicle because, even though these filters make the engine more efficient, "they add power to the transmission above what the transmission is designed to handle." Therefore, voiding the warranty. I'm not trying to discourage people from modifying these cars, just make sure whatever you do is reversible so if you do have a problem that could be related to what you changed, the factory stuff can go back on.

also K&N filter will introduce more dirt particle into the engines oil system, another reason not to waste money on k&N filter.

You are incorrect. A K&N filter on your car will not void you warranty.

The story about your friend is useless. Just because someone believes everything they are told and will accept it does not make it fact.

1) There is no proof that the K&N filter will make your engine more efficient. Disagree with me? Post the flow numbers from a new OEM filter and a K&N filter to prove me wrong. Second the dealer needs to prove that the filter caused the damage.

Instead of treating your opinion as fact why don't you try and back it up with quantitative numbers or law.

For example I will use the law to call your claim of almost anything voiding warranties bull ****.

In the US there is a little something called the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. Not familiar with it? Try Google.

Going to do this to mine tomorrow but putting quad "D" tips on the end.

As the Airflow meters are in the cats it wont hurt the car just make it noisier. I am also keeping the original as it is flanged from the cats making it two bolts and you are back legal.
