Same OEM fuel filter... Which now I'm definitely changing... And am running dual K&N cone filters...

Possibly too much oil in/on the filters?
Is the engine leaking oil, then ingesting it through the air filters?

Are you still running your EGR? I bet most of that gunk came from the engine breather and the exhaust.

http://www.toptiergas.com/retailers.html

"TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline help drivers avoid lower quality gasoline which can leave deposits on critical engine parts, which reduces engine performance. That’s something both drivers and automakers want to avoid."

Nuff said.

Yup! SRT-4 guys use catch cans because of this. This isn't from the fuel. The injectors are a straight shot into the combustion chamber so how could it possibly be fuel? Only air is supposed to be flowing through those runners and, in your case, oil vapor from the PCV valve.

So, catch can or perhaps (do they make a small inline filter ?) I've got the inside of that intake and valves clean as whistle now... I would hate to go through that process again very soon...

But the lines run directly into an inlet above the inside of the butterfly valve of the TB... I wonder if there's anything I can do to prevent the atomized oil from being sucked into the intake plenum... Granted, it wasn't really that bad considering 22,000 miles of really hard driving... But I'm like Andrew is about the outside of the car when it comes to the inside of my engine... Maximum HP comes from maintaining silly little things like that...

your best to keep your intake manifold clean is to use an OIL CATCH CAN. This will trap any oil vapor the leaves the crank case.

here is a link to another forum so you can see the result of what it can do.

http://www.ls2gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=164244

it might even help clean your emission from the engine since it is not burning the oil vapor.

found some picture of the oil catch can at work. not the best model but you will get the idea of what it can do.

It all depends on the style of catch can you decide to go with. If you go with something like this then you could plug that fitting. If you go with one of these, which is more like the filter you are asking about, you would plumb that line back in the throttle body area to keep a source of vacuum. One other idea is to run a Vacuum Pump which in some cases actually frees up some ponies by relieving the pressure that builds up underneath the pistons. You would also need the catch can with the vacuum pump though. Plus they help a lot with oil leaks.
