Default drop your intake temps.

Every time I shut off my car the stock air box gets super hot to the touch. So I have been trying to figure out how to keep the stock air box cool. This might have been done before but here is what I did. The hood insulation on my crossfire was all scratched and to be put lightly UGLY. So I took the thing off and noticed it has heat shielding in it so I cut 4 pieces out of it, one for each side under the filter boxes, and two big ones which I stacked on top of one another in the middle covering the middle part of the box that air flows through. Now all I have is k&n's in the stock air box, so I drove around and came back and all I can say is power feels more there especially after the car warmed up there was not much of a decrease in performance. when I came home popped the hood you can feel the difference the top of the box was cold and each of the filters were barely warm. Just thought I would share this with you. p.s only some of the heat material is reflective so only use that half along with the spongy part. Also if someone wanted to use something else great this was all that I had at the time.

Please let us know if the temperature from the engine bay discolors the paintwork on the hood - especially the outside.

I'd be concerned about starting a fire more than anything...but I agree! Those intakes get HOT!

So far so good no discoloration on the hood and car pulls awesome. My girlfriends 350z doesn't have one stock under the hood so I guess it's ok. As far as fire I have done some testing and the material doesn't get to hot as the air interring the intake manifold is colder. But anyways so far so good.

Discoloration, if it occurs, will probably happen over a long period.

I have the base Xfire and they came from the factory without insulation under the hood. I would expect that you will see no discoloration of your hood.

That's interesting/good to know.
If there's no insulation, is there anything - like a heat shield, or is it just painted metal?

Isn't the insulation on the inside of the hood supposed to act as a fire blanket in case of an engine compartment fire ?

Just wondering cause my X-Fire's " HOT " babe !

No heat shield, just the painted underside of the hood.
