CIA waste of money?**
I was told that a CIA may be a waste of money. This is because the crossfire's dual intake is set up in a ram air fashion that cannot be out done by installing a single pipe CIA. Does anyone have any experience and dyno results after installing a CIA. I was told I may be better off replacing the original filters with K+N's.
Anyone know for sure the better way to go? k+N or CIA?
Thanks a lot,
Josh

I got the NeedsWings cold air intake a couple of weeks ago, and butt dyno shows a definite improvement. I also loved getting to hear the SC whine.
If you search, I'm sure you can find dyno results, or email Rob at sales@needswings.com for specs.
BTW - its CAI, not CIA (who does waste lots of money).

CAI can reduce heat soak by reducing the material the intake charge comes in contact with. Helps a lot to put the filter in a cooler area than right over the motor.
EDIT: I find it kind of amusing how many threads there are about which COLD AIR intake "flows" better.

And I especially can't believe pulling hot underhood air through the same two filters can net a hp increase. Let that car warm up and you HAVE to lose hp.
Something is amiss.

The only issue I saw with the stock SRT intake was the small diameter openings at the radiator support and the thin collapsing rubber Y-pipe at the throttle body - remedy this and you will have all the intake air your SRT can suck. K&N filters can't be a bad addition either.
I have an IAT gauge on my SRT (measuring the air temp after the intercooler) and I pulled the intake tubes off and drove around letting the airboxes suck in hot engine air - the air temp increased around 10deg F - this might be due to intercooler doing it's thing - I figured it would be a lot more - perhaps on a N/A Crossfire the readings would be different.
As far as the claim that your filters "cook" sitting above the engine is pure BS. With the SL55 setup - I can pull the tubes out of the airboxes and feel the filters with my fingers - they never get hot...

My only question is "do you ever READ this forum?"
k&N'S ARE GREAT
but emagine a cai WITH K&N's!

Just didn't know if anyone knew if there was any actual feasable horsepower gain just from replacing the filters with K + N? Also is their a sounds difference with just a filter change?
thanks

If the CAIs are netting 8 hp gains I guess some filters would get you 2 or 3.
Ugh. That sounds so freakin SILLY!

Unless you are looking for a different look or as much HP as possible, KN Filters are a more then adequate.
If you get a CAI then you lose the stock engine cover which is one of the biggest downfalls. The difference in HP is related to less turbulence and lower IAT. We saw IAT between 75-82 with our CAI, our Airbox with KN was more around 120 mark.
The filters will without a doubt give you a HP increase, just not as much as the CAI.
It's more of a personal preference when you're talking about that little of a HP difference.

LMAO, of course you gain power with the cai. not only are you pulling in colder air but your no longer restricted with the horrible stock system. Look at how freaking restrictive it is, look at the terrible Y.
There are plenty of dyno's posted all over this forum showing the gains with a cai.
I have yet to see a car that did not make more power by replacing the stock intake system with a cold air intake.
