Engine, Exhaust, Transmission and DifferentialPost questions here that have to do with the engine, cooling system, air intake, exhaust, Transmission and Differential
I'm amazed at how clean some of these engine bays are. I'm scared to death of doing anything more than a light wipe down of the engine cover for fear of shorting something out with water. Am I overly worried about something that won't likely happen?
I have washed engines in every car/truck/suv I have ever owner, never a problem.
I do not let it sit after washing,
After washing, I blow it off with leaf blower or compressed air, then drive it until it has been at normal running temp for at least 30 min.

I too was concerned at first but then saw more and more owners here cleaning their engines etc. I only cover the alternator with a plastic grocery bag and avoid the box near the firewall where the RCM and ECU are located
If you have the stock engine cover remove that too and cover the air intake very well with plastic !!
I spray the entire engine bay with Simple Green and allow it to sit for 5 to 10 minutes and then thoroughly rinse with water with only a household garden hose
I do this with a cool engine
I then start it up and take it for a drive for at least 20 minutes to warm and thoroughly dry the entire engine and engine bay
This was my engine bay on my first Crossfire - 2004 Coupe --Looks much like my engine bay on my current 2005 Roadster in my previous post here
All these engine bay pics are mouthwatering. My contribution in the first pic. The 2nd shows a very reasonable approach to chroming the scrapes on the stainless grille. 3M adhesive on 1/2" wide chrome strips...less than $20.
I am finished with the eng bay for this year. Next year I will figure out what and how to paint up the MB airbox and cover. There are a lot of cool ideas on this thread to look into.
