That’s one sharp engine cover paint job. I suspect there was lots of sanding involved? Nothing to be embarrassed about!

I finally got around to cutting out my engine cover today so it fits around my custom intake. I'll have pics in the next few days after I finish painting it.

Please do post pics. I am eager to see this. I am still holding out hope of cutting my cover to fit my Needswings intake when it arrives.

Yeah but it was fun. The SRT cover has a chrome Chrysler wing on the front and I have been trying to come up with one but I guess it is get out the small brushes and get to painting so I can finally finish the cover. Thanks for the nice remarks.

Well, here is how it came out:







I didn't really care to do anything fancy under the hood, so no special paint work or anything, but I feel like it's better than having nothing there at all. I had my old air box sitting in the garage for months and finally had the time and ambition to experiment with it. I'm not a good jig sawer, or it would have been alot nicer and cut out the shape I wanted. I didn't want the left side to be cut out completely but after a few bad cuts it was no choice, lol.

Just a warning for anyone who tries, it took me about 4 hours to cut and sand. It's very time consuming to get the bottom hollowed out, but it's far from impossible to do. Just draw it out on the top and cut away.

looking at yours, i like the idea, but it looks like your filter is sitting in a hot spot. did you remove all of the crap around the hole the original tube went through to open it up bigger? if not, id do that, and i'll also suggest you build a barrier beside the filter to keep the air passing through the radiator from contact. simular to most k&n setups you see.

Yeah, all the original ducting is removed on that side. It actually leaves a pretty good sized hole beside the radiator. I have to pick bugs out of the filter all the time. I have it turned down and centered right in front of it, like stock. I never really bothered to make a heat shield or anything because I doubt I'd see any noticeable gains from it. The reason I keep the filter in the engine bay is it rains and floods here in Florida and I don't want to have to worry about driving extra slow in the rain and being paranoid of standing water. It's easier to access and change the filter, etc.

reason i brought it up is because of my many different setups i tried the time i was simular to yours, i didn't feel much of a difference from stock except cool mornings before my radiator heated up. i was just thinking about another try but with a shield for myself.

I feel a pretty good difference in mine. I also gutted the screen and plastic mesh where the MAF is, which helps a lot also.

Hardly done with it, but here are the most recent ones. Some of the stainless steel braiding has been done (waiting on the powdercoated hose clamps to finish). The engine cover has been cut down to show the engine plaque and has also been painted. The JMB Performance intake has been installed with the K&N filters. The nitrous has been re-installed (tapped on the under side of the intake), but i am not happy with the wiring so i am going to re-wire it, hiding it better. and the last one shows the dual purge out the front of the grill.
