Default Engine Cover / Air Cleaner Removal Questions

Sorry for the newbie question. but...

The instruntions in the service manual state that to remove the engine cover, one should remove the air feeder tubes on the side of the engine cover, grab the cover at the rear and lift from the rear...

How do you remove the side air tubes? Pull out away from the cover? Lift?? Push Down??

Then, I guess there are clips at the rear of the engine cover, but what does it attach to at the front for reinstalling the cover?

Any tips and tricks would be appreciated. Especially regarding the air tubes.. I can't figure out how they are attached..

Bruce

if its just the engine cover, just pull up...it pops out of the tubes in the rear, and front of engine...you will not break anything, you will see how it attaches after you pull it up and off...it is very simple design...

If you're talking about the gray cover right on top then it's easy & no air tubes need to be removed. Just grab the front & pull up.......do the same for the sides & voila', you're good to go!
Put it one the same way you removed it......line it up with the clips & just give a good push.

The engine cover lifts free from four grommets (2 in the back and 2 in the front)
The air tubes can be pulled away from the cover and flexed to be removed first or simply lift the corners of the cover one at a time and once it is free from the engine it will pull free from the tubes anyway.
If you are planning to change the 2 air filters turn the cover over to expose the bottom side.
You will see two rectangular covers with a torx screw in each corner.
You need to remove the 4 torx screws from each cover to expose filters. Then replace filters and replace the rectangular covers and screws and align the engine cover with the oil filler cap and opening in cover for it and press down firmly on all four corners of the cover.
Be sure the rear of the cover is aligned correctly over the air intake (throttle body)

Yeah, I second that!! Thank you Valkryderguy!! I tried it myself a few times and couldn't figure it out, until I read your response. You Senior Guys are fantastic. I've saved some serious money already, by downloading the Maintenance guide .pdf (e-bay wants $ 190.00) and the insights/advice have been awsome.

Feeling retarded here. Tried to lift the cover off but it's not budging. Can you post a pic with arrows? Don't want to bust it and then try and find a replacement. Thanks in advance.

Thanks, Brian. It was actually quite easy once I tugged hard enough. Anyone know where I can get K&N filters at a reasonable price? PepBoys has a $10 off coupon, but only for K&N filters in stock. Yep, you guessed it, the ones for a Crossfire are never in stock...

Do a google search for K&N 33-2290
Lots of places to get these online.

The Crossfire comes stock with Dual CAI - Just remove the choke-points at the radiator support and throw in a set of K&N filters.

You can spend a lot more money...but it won't buy you much in terms of HP or 1/4 mile time for the Limited...besides - you can dress up that engine cover to look sweet...

If anyone has an extra engine cover gromet (little metal insert that's found in front of the lower tray) I would sure be interested in it. Drop me a line at kldiet@***.net. Dealer lost one of mine.
Thanks,
Karl
