Stupid question about our tach...
First let me give a little background. I have been building physics research equipment for a long time. Commercial equipment. I am an old analog guy.
When I "wind her out", as it were, my tach will commonly read 6.3k -6.5 k before shifting (Manu-matic). I know it is rev-limited to 5.5 or something, but it doesn't seem to be needle slap. I will put the Nitrod to work to see a digital readout when the weather clears.
What does yours do?

Max, the SRT is max rev at 6k and will shift just before that. 5.8 or 5.9 I think. I dont look that close cause I am usually watching the road/track instead. I had LET tune my ECU and bump the rev limiter up to 6.2K. I do notice that my shift points seem to have changed now also.(A little later)

Forgot my thought. Maybe your gauge is off at the high end. 300 to 500 rpm is a fair amount though.

I think you and I have the save priorities. I'm watching the road too. I just never really paid any attention.
Anyone else?
I have a G Tech meter that some how has a tach built into it. I still have not figured out how this thing gets an RPM reading by being plugged into the lighter port, but anyway....it can log the RPM during a 1/4 mile run and stock my car would make the 1st-2nd shift around 5800 RPM and with the LET tune it shifts at around 6300 according to the data it stores.

GTech's read electrical "noise" coming off the alternator.
Oh yea......I can rev my car up to about 6300................but I have a manual trans.

auto stock should shift around 6000 when floored
With a TVT tune mine goes to 6200.
It does appear to hit 6300 once in a while.

This is not really a big deal to most people, but if you are trying to do a dyno run on your car the front wheels are typically stationary, causing the PCM to not allow you to reach true redline (6000RPM or higher).
If you're on a 4 wheel chassis dyno this is not an issue.
When I had my dyno done I told the guy that it would limit at 5500rpm since the front wheels werent moving. On the first pull he only ran it up to 5500. On the second pull he just ran it to max and it ran up to 5900-6000. Same with the third run. I was a little surprised, but pleased.

Mother Mercedes is in charge, and knows (best) or better than you. If you are rolling the front wheels - coasting -
you can go to the redline if you wanna.
4000 if not moving
5500 if front are not moving
about 6000 otherwise.
Can anyone tell me if nimrod is available???????? Their website is out of stock? and has been for MONTHS. Are they for real.
The ignition noise it the signal for the Gtech meter, it just counts them, the alternator is 3 phase alternator that generates little noise and not reliable. The am radio comment is spot on accurate, and a little crafty. In older cars you could have tuned off the low end of the dial and at low speed actually hear a fouled plug not sparking just by ear, you did not know which one of course. Waldig German for Woody Ta DAA.
Enjoy, Woody

I tried to calibrate my Gtech in the driveway and its a no go. My car limits the revs to 3800rpm when sitting in park. I just calibrated it to 2K and 3.8k.

I have the Nitrod and it works very well. No glitzy graphics, but good fast(/) information.
I've spoken to a tech guy there twice, and the cust. serv. is top-notch. Have you tried the email?
I understand they are coming out with a newer model, hence the "outof stock" for awhile.
If you can, call the number in Canada andask your questions. Both the SRT and the N?A are supported, at least with the old model.
Afterlooking at all the others, I think it's worth waiting for.
Let us know
?
Nitrod emailed me when I was initially looking and they are coming out with two new models in the fall. Nothing will be available until then.
