i have a 04 xfire limted auto .. iwaS leaving work and i got on it u know in this car it likes to kick down and actually likes to move when u do this . i let off and it started to sputter so i pull into a parking lot turn it off and it ran good but the check engine was still on took it to the shop. he ran it through the computer it said #1 cylinder mis fire .. i know i could of jumped the timing on this car what else coulde it be.. he said the gas... wel the lights off for now shouldnt come back on hopefully

Doubt that the timing jumped.
How many miles on the car?
Did you fill up recently?

Sounds like it could be the gas then. Or the gas cap could cause the CEL to come on.
Remove your gas cap and re-tighten it.

 

y would it sputter then while driving it then stop when i shut it off it was fine then never new a gas cap could do that thanks

 

If you got some bad gas it might cause the car to run poorly. Run this gas out and see if it happens after you fill up again.
You could also go to Autozone and have them check (free) to see if you have any codes stored. Take it from there.

#1 cylinder misfire could be a lot of things and maybe it won't happen again. Bad gas could cause it, an intermittent fouled spark plug, or even a weak coil on that plug. The most common cause are spark plug wires, which the Crossfire does not have.

If it happens again and you get the same code, pull the spark plug and see what it looks like. Maybe you had a piece of carbon on the tip momentarily to set the code.

There's no way to "jump the timing" on this car short of having half the teeth on the camshaft gear rip off.

You might want to check the plug wire, spark plugs (there are two), then injector for cylinder 1.

 

seems to be running fine now hopefully it will stay like that

 

Glad to hear it's running better.
However, problems that go away by themsleves usually come back by themselves.

 

the mechanic read the code and he got rid of it and checkit all out said it could be lots of things if it comes back onwithin a couple days bring it back he said
