Thinking of getting a CAI maybe something like K&N or Injen for my SRT6.
I was told that more air in equals more air out which makes sense to me
but do i really need to change my exhaust or will the stock exhaust handle the job well. Can someone who has installed such a CAI or similar give me some feedback like exhaust used etc....how many lbs of torque and horsepower gained, any suggestions welcomed. I have also read here that many have comme back to original exhaust after replacing for other makes.
Thanx much appreciated and SEASONS GREETINGS TO ALL!!!

Yo G.
Plenty of info on the forum about CAI's. After you read this, try the search button at the top of the page. Yer gonna find more info than you need!

No you do not NEED to change the exhaust. I considered doing just that but after searching about exhaust I determined to just leave it alone for now. Of course any restrictions you can eliminate will allow the exhaust to flow better. When I ran my Chevelle (supercharged SB) at the track I ran 11.70. I dropped the full exhaust, ran with open headers and I ran...11.70.

You decide.

I have a WAI (warm air intake....LOL!) for around $150 by using the Spectre parts at Autozone, and what a difference it has made. Also did some custom exhaust work (removing rear cats & resonator) using the stock muffler and along with just a Code-3 pulley, tune and Nitto drag radials, it ran a couple of 12.1's at 114 mph, without any cooling mods! I'm still surprised how well our cars run with so little work done to them. Here's a couple of pics of my mods... Good luck!

What type of pipe is that? Or is that heat shielding around the pipe?

It's just a 'Y' pipe with 2.5" inlet and 3" outlet.

Gilbert, I think you'll find that on SRT-6's the intake is much more restricted that the exhaust. So open the bottleneck on the air going in before you worry to much about it going out. On many cars it is reversed, or bottlenecked on both ends. But the new exhausts that I've seen forum members put on haven't added (or should I say allowed) much more power.

Rob from NeedsWings has exhaust cut-outs, which eliminate muffler, resonator, and cats. But he only saw a 5-10 whp difference. Compared to his cold air intake which saw a 23-25 whp difference. Keep in mind that you could get a few more ponies out of exhaust cuts outs if the computer were dyno tuned for the more open exhaust, but still you're not talking much.

Also when you look at the price of intake mods vs. exhaust mods, it becomes a no-brainer.

Good luck!
