Default Have you heard about the end of 0 weight oil?

I was at the stealer last week and chatted with my local xfire rep and he informed me that the 0-40 mobil one will not be available soon in the US. He said that this was a European blend that will no longer be carried here.

Since there has been much debate about using other weights on the forum, he did inform me that 5-40 would be just fine for our engines but nothing more, and that synthetic is the only way to go with these cars.

Highly unlikely.
Mobil 1 has a press release intoducing new 0W-20 & 0W-30 weights.
The Mobil site still adverises the 0W-40.
But in the worst case, 5W is acceptable.

Mobil 1 0W-40

I've been thru 2 oil intervals with 0-40. 1st was factory. Changed after 1 yr old to another Mobil 0-40, but was never happy with slight valve chatter on start up since car was new! This time I listened to my common sense & completely changed brands to Castrol & stepped up to 5-40 synthetic. I will never turn back to using Mobil again.
From the 1st start up with Castrol my valve nuisance is gone & the car runs as quiet as a fine running sewing machine as I expected it to do from day 1. I'll never believe that going to mobil 5-40 would have ever brought me the results that Castrol has!! I don't live in any high heat temp. year round that the 0-40 would have caused this valve tick. Much variable temps. here in S. W. Ohio. Bye Bye mobil.

Is that just regular oil or synthetic? Not familiar with the AMSOIL brand.

They do recommend that we stick with synthetic.

I know at the end of the day Oil is Oil but its the engine that cares right?

I may part ways with the Mobil 1 but for now I got it because being a newbie and trying to stick with factory specs was my goal. after talking to a tech he said that the 5 40 is also fine but does not recommend going heavier than that. Either way its good to hear about the options.

THnx

AMSOIL's are only synthetic and they are the first to create it. Of course I get them at cost because my friend, who is also my neighbor, is an AMSOIL dealer.

Here's a little history about AMSOIL...

And here's what I only use in my babies...

I just watched the video and they have me pretty convinced that Ams is the way to go!

I may give it a try on my next change.

Now about that friend you have...

You may have a small market here on the forum!

I pay only $6.75 a quart plus tax for my AMSOIL 5W-40. I don't have to pay shipping because my neighbor works near the warehouse in Orlando and picks up his supply there. Very convenient I must say!

The Germans were using synthetic oils in the last war, not so good as now but...
Maybe we do not need the 0 grade because of global warming, which is said to be ruining the weather systems. Obviously its skipping today as it's snowing like a bit#h.

haha, I sell it for 13.95+ tax at work. It is the best oil you can buy. Still its worth the money, especially if you rip on your car.

More important than what brand you use is to stick with it.
Mixing the addstives every oil change defeats the purpose and may actually cause a "hybrid" of build up.
Same applies for gasoline. Stick with one brand at lease for 5000 miles worth driving - and if you switch say with that brand for the same time..
This will keep the oil and fuel systems clean.

Mobile 1 is no longer a true synthetic oil. Most oils marketed as "synthetic" are really nothing more then a highly refined petro oil. In Europe oil cannot be marketed as "synthetic" unless it truely is, but of course here they can market anything as anything, so anything goes.

Amsoil is a true 100% synthetic oil, so it is a better choice then Mobile 1.

I think that you do have a point but if you make a switch once or twice it essentially comes down to splitting hairs.

However if you use a crappy brand of oil or gas, your fuel and oil systems will get clean when you make the swith to a good brand!
