Default Check Engine Light when A/C is engaged

Hello Forum,

My 2003 crossfire seems to run fine. However, whenever I am stuck in traffic (which is everyday for an hour each way) I usually have to turn the A/C not that it is getting hot in DC. 90% of the time, if I turn the A/C on, the Check Engine Light (MIL) illuminates. I went to get the code checked and it said crank position sensor was malfunctioning. Has anyone had a similar issue? I purchased a new crank position sensor, but I am afraid that there may be a more serious issue at hand here. I have not installed the new sensor yet, but any help on this issue would be great!
