Default maf cleaning

so i just discovered that it can be cleaned, haha! i dont know **** about cars but i would love to learn and having this car would give me the opportunity. im just scared about ruining anything cause my "warranty" is almost up, and in my opinion the "premium care" is ths worst three grand i ever spent in my life. im not sure about censorship and profanity on this site and i dont want to get booted so i will refrain from my true feelings about the stealership. enough of my chatter, please if anyone knows anything on the subject of cleaning the maf i would really be in debt to you. cheers.

Unhappy Re: maf cleaning

sooo i called the shop in which i take my car in, not the dealership. they advised me to leave the sensor alone and asked me if i had a cel? i said no and they told me if im having any hesitation or what not its probably the fuel filter. soo i returned the shop towels and the maf cleaner today and instead bought a car wash. ive been reading up on all this stuff. so apparently when you clean and re-oil your kn filter its recommended to clean the maf sensor, which is exactly what i wanted to do. but then some people say you better have a replacement incase **** hits the fan. im the kind of person who likes to do something before there is a problem. my crossfire had 67k miles on it i use nothing but v-power and oil change every 3k with a synthetic blend. it eats better than i do. but i still really want to get it cleaned i hate not knowing if something is dirty.

Wow, 8.5 quarts of 0W40 Synthetic oil every 3k miles!!! That will eat a hole in your pocket if it is a daily driver. Do you do it yourself or take it to the dealer? At any rate, every 3k miles is overkill for this car.

Talking Re: maf cleaning

lol, dont laugh but what is overkill? i officially hate the dealership they have done nothing for me except take my money and run! ive been having electrical issues with my radio and speaker system shorting out but "they cant seem to find anything" and then i end up paying for a "diagnosis" that didnt find ****. ummm i take my car to a local place in olympia called above and beyond. when i use to take my ***** to the dealer they wanted on average like 120 for parts and labor (oil change), this place only charges 18 dollars? its not mobil synthetic but rather a synthetic blend, one of the owners of the shop uses a synthetic blend in her g35 and says it runs great. so i hear that when some engines shut off that i guess it continues to heat the car/maf and burns all the crud off? is that the function on the xfire when the car is shut off but you can press that little button below the a/c and it heats the cabin? i wish i knew more about cars.

Wow, that is extremely scary that you are getting your oil changed for $18. You cannot buy 8.5 quarts of oil for that price, much less the filter. These engines are built to extremely tight tolerances and require 0W40 Mobil One synthetic or comparable oil. The mobil One oil runs around $7 a quart, so do the math. $63 for oil alone. Figure another $12-15 for a filter. You should get a minimum of 7.5K miles out of an oil change. On average, it will cost you $80 to do an oil change yourself. I would be worried about my engine if you are paying someone $18 to do it.

Overkill means you are changing it too often. But, in light of what you said, not only are you doing it too often, but not getting it done properly. Poor, poor engine.

It's actually 5w-40 Mobil 1. It is the same oil they use in their diesels and it is not the off the shelf 5w-40. There are additional additives in it that make using other brands 5w-40 not equivalent. It's a tad bit cheaper too!

Don't let the dealership know you have been using the wrong oil or your warranty on the engine and anything connected to the engine in their opinion is toast.

Synthetic blend is not what the car is intended to have, a true mobile 1 'euro spec' oil is what is called for, nothing less. As stated, will cost you about $60-$80 for the oil and filter alone.

Change your oil when your FSS tells you to (depending on driving style and conditions, usually around every 7,500) and if you do not know what FSS is, please search and you will be happy you did.

I would get that crap out of my car asap if I were you, a lot more important to have good oil than to clean the MAF IMHO....
