Engine, Exhaust, Transmission and DifferentialPost questions here that have to do with the engine, cooling system, air intake, exhaust, Transmission and Differential
Back up and good to go !!!! Thanks to rcompart (Rudy) I got the replacement upper radiator hose assembly today.
MB part# 170-501-25-82......$45.48
He used his contacts and got it to me overnight to my door. Here are a few pics of the old worn through hose and the hose assembly as well as the coolant I used to refill the system.

I wonder if it's possible to replace the hose with a steel braided hose? I did that on my Camaro years ago and never had replace it again. It looked cool too!
I had checked to find the same wear mark on my car. I dont run pressure in the coolant system and have less to worry about as a result.
I took a file and beveled down the posts shown in the photo so that they could no longer interfere with the hose. The little sharp edge of the plastic post really does a nice job of cutting the hose covering.
I have the factory hose clamp in correct position so I suggest that you all look at your cars before the trip this week to carlisle in the heat. It can happen to you too.
Since nothing mounts there.... just grind, or file, them off.... problem solved......
Certainly can't hurt but if ya just twist the hose slightly outward from the fan shroud at the radiator neck and then tighten the clamp there is plenty of clearance as well.
for those wanting a clip i used a maglite auto holder from bass pro. they are 6$ in packs of 2. using a small bolt and nylock nut it fiots perfectly!!
If you're going to Carlisle, and want 1 of these, I have an extra one. They come 2 to a package, and don't need both! Look me up there. Howard(IBLUBYU)

I have a 04 Coupe with 57000 miles on it. Well today I was lucky. I was close to home when I discovered a pin hole leak in my upper radiator hose. I lost some coolant but not much and did not overheat. I made it home and found that there is only one upper hose in the US and it is being shipped to me. The hole was caused by constant contact/rubbing on the plastic cooling fan shroud in a spot where there are two round raised surfaces with sharp edges. I have attached a few pics to show you where to look to see if your hose is rubbing this spot or not. Looking for feedback from all of you with your findings. This is a view on the drivers side of the engine compartment in front of the power steering pump.
Gary:
While performing some underhood maintenance & detailing this morning, I took the opportunity to look at the upper radiator hose on my 2007 Coupe. Turns out there is about an inch of clearance on my XFire on the radiator bosses you showed rubbing on your 2004 model. The upper hose on my 2007 makes nearly a full 180 after the connection and completely avoids this intereference. Looked like Chrysler became aware of this issue sometime later and changed the configuration of the upper cooling system hose to eliminate the issue. Or the hose on my 07 was installed differently at the factory and oriented so that this interference doesn't occur.

Seeing that part only available as whole upper hose system and calculating ordering part paying meccanic hand job and tax on it will cost at least 120 euro i suggested my italian meccanic to cut the tube and make an operation on it he didnt want to touch and his excuse it will be a alaturca job pressire problems etc. So i took it to moroccon mecanic in milan they did the job as i suggested for 10 euro.photo is attached it runs as animal again without leaking
Cutted on the hole putting another tube inside very well fixed and closed from.both side.
As for the leak there is a "recall" check at chrysler.com to see if the service was performed. (owners section then enter last 8 of vin)
This is definitely not a completely sure way of finding if the hose rubbing trouble has been fixed, you just have to look. When I had my ‘04 NA there was a Chrysler bulletin posted on this forum warning of this trouble. Sure enough my ‘04 was rubbing, the solution was to loosen the hose clamp and turn the hose away from the shroud, a five minute job.
My hose just showed a very small abrasion mark.
When I got the six I checked and it was OK.
The clip breaks easily, ask me how I know and I obtained mine from NWs.
I’ll see if I can find when the hose bulletin was first mentioned on this forum.
Edit
This problem was first mentioned by mightyjlr on 04-29-2004, the bulletin from Chrysler had been put out on 04-22-2004.
