Any tips for removing rear exhaust hanger/rubbers?
Any tips for removing rear exhaust hanger/rubbers?
I spent 2 hours today and a whole lot of cursing later trying to remove the rubber hangers holding the rear muffler.
There has to be an easier way to do it for the future? I know alot of you guys have changed your cat backs any tips please?
John.

Good luck-they are tough to work with...
Re: Any tips for removing rear exhaust hanger/rubbers?
What I found is that the rubber bands are actually stretched somewhat forward to keep the muffler from wobbling side to side. I too had a hard time, the first time. Then I realized that if I take the 3 bolts out of the flange by the cats, it is much easier with the tension removed.
I also cut the centers out of the OEMs before I reinstalled them. Made it easier to install and easier to remove the next time.
This last time I had a new tip put on, I told my muffler guy how the the mounts were pulled forward on the OEM. The new system is solid as a rock with hardly no movement, unlike the Magnaflow system I had on there.

Also, a cut wire clothes hanger threaded thru the donut helped pull it to the side while I pulled down with the tool. I used a ziptie to hold the two donuts more together when I re-installed. With the Magnaflow, the donut can come loose on one side. The ziptie keeps that from happening.

Thank for your replys guys its such a PITA.
I'll try using WD-40 and some sort of hook and hopefully make the job easier. If not I'll just do what mopar did cut and get new ones!
Now I know why there was a nasty mark on my rear end above the exhaust tips after it was at the exhaust shop they must have had a real hard time.
