Default Stalls at stops and high speed

My 04 Xfire stalls and dies at stop lights and sometimes stall at high rates of speed, It always fires right back up and runs smoothly until the next stop. If I shift into neutral at the stop the engine won't stall, but it always falters just a little when I began to accelerate. It has 90k on it. I changed the CPS but no luck, the CEL is on but it's been on before this showing "secondary air injection malfunction" any thoughts?

I'd check to see if there are any NEW codes. The stalling at idle makes me think "bad gas" or maybe you are in need of plugs or that you have a vacuum leak.... but the stalling at high speed makes me think CPS.

Hey, um, how old is your battery?

my battery was purchased in March of 2008, there is another code showing "Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit" I assumed it was related to the "secondary" code but I'm not sure about that. What's the best way to check for vacuum leaks?

Now you are on to something. If the ECU don't know how much air the engine is taking in, it may not send enough fuel...

I understand, I tried to find more info on that code but everything seems to point to the MAF which I changed last November, I did clean it about 3 days ago but it didn't make a differance.

Have you checked all the vacum lines?

Classic symptoms of a dirty fuel filter ... starving for fuel at low and high RPM's.

Hopefully this is the case, as replacing the filter is easiest and cheapest fix. Good luck.

I actually changed the filter about a month ago, this may have been the beggining of my issues. I'll check to make sure everything is connected properly after i get off work. Thanks for the help

I Know this is an old thread but I decided to update it just provide helpful info. Two things were going on with my Xfire. I had changed the fuel filter but the new filter was clogged, I found this out by taking it out and blowing through it. I had changed the MAF a few months ago when the car was hesitating but it was with a Cardone MAF, I decided to remove the Cardone MAF and changed to the Bosch OE and Whola--the Xfire runs fine and no more CEL

Glad things worked out. But at the risk of sounding stupid, what does MAF, OE and CEL stand for in this context?

MAF (Mass air flow) OE (Original Equipment) CEL (Check engine Light)
