Default Engine Whinning

All standard equipment and the car runs great! I have no complaints with the performance. However, the engine has a whinning that can be heard at all speeds. My mechanic says it is the power steering pump. Had him replace it and after the 3rd pump I gave up trying to eliiminate this nuisance. Any suggestions as to what could be causing this problem?

Take the sererpentine belt off and restart the motor with it out of the way. This could tell you if the whinning is an accessory or inside the motor (oil pump).

Is it a steady whin, or does it fluctuate with engine RPM...???

If the latter, couldn't hurt to check the belt, and/or remove belt and check individual components for smooth quiet movement by hand.

The other moving part is the radiator fan, which will engage all the time, if A/C is active...

Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results....get a new mechanic.

Was told each pump was bad. There is no fluctuation with the whinning. Can heard clearly even at high speeds.

Is it possible that the air pump runs continuously?

I'd say your car is female but I'd get flamed for saying it so......I won't go there.

unplug the air pump and see if the whining goes away.... you will likely get the air injection code though....

I would agree with the suggestion to pull the fan belt, check all the pulleys and then start it and see if your noise is still there.....

I know what it is! There is a cooling fan that draws cabin air into the ECU/BCM box to cool the electronics. On cold mornings mine will howl just like the Secondary Air Pump. Dry bearings. And usually I restart the car after it warms up a little and it goes away. Take the cover off the ECU/BCM box and see if that is it.
