Funny thing happened while changing oil
It was about time for the 2nd oil change since buying the car. It had 13,000 miles when I bought it and the owner told me it was time for an oil change. So, I bought a vacuum transfer tank with a hand pump...hated it...took forever to drain the oil out of the sump. So I looked around and found a 12V oil change pump at Academy Sporting goods in the boat motor section. Got it home hooked it up to the battery...stuck the tube in the dipstick tube and the other tube in a 5 gallon catch can. Hit the on switch and the oil started flowing up the tube to the pump then to the catch can. I noticed the discharge line was vibrating quite a bit so I stuffed a rag to hold the tube in the catch can. I turned around and the discharge came flying out of the can and oil was going everywhere. I hate it didn't get caught on camera as it took several seconds to get it back in the can. Needless to say the car, concrete patio, and I had oil all over us. The pump worked great...maybe too good. For less than $25 the pump was a good buy. Just be sure to secure the discharge hose!!!
everything becomes obsolete. I was given a pneumatic oil extractor when I bought my SRT6 coupe. I tried it and now use it exclusively on my cars, bikes and lawnmowers. I get the oil out with no spillage. FAST!! gary

Me, I like to drain the oil from the bottom when its hot to get it all out and check the magnetic drain plug. I even do the oil filter first to break the suction and get it all out. Magnetic plugs allow you to get an idea of bad things that might be going on. ENJOY, Woody

I'm interested in getting one, and maybe I can find it online, rather than a trip to a boat store...
Thanx...
My "favorite" oil change screw-up is forgetting to put the plug back in before adding the new oil.
I just love pouring $30 worth of oil down the drain.

Thought I'd go cheap on the Cub Cadet RZT Kawasaki 22 HP last year on the oil change and got a filter from NAPA that looked right. Got done, cranker 'er up and immediately blew the filter off and oil all over the place. Turns out the threads weren't quite the same.
