Cool going a little insane with my exhaust

Hello everybody,

Since I'm young, reckless, impulsive, and generally unsympathetic to my fellow man's ears, I have decided to do up my exhaust. Fact of the matter is, I love nothing more than the sound of an angry engine (yes, even the dreaded drone) and I've decided to disturb the peace.

I have two dynomax bullets http:// http://m.summitracing.com/parts/WLK-24234 and a couple of shops where buddies of mine work, recipe for insanity.

I've been around loud exhaust before and have seen that as long as you aren't louder than a Harley, rural cops don't really care. So I'm going to have the exhaust cut right before the cats (rear) and run true duals back to the two mufflers and some tips, now some questions,

Is it okay to run the new second pipe on the other side of the drive train, it is awfully close to that drive shaft. Also, since the stock tips are smaller than pipe diameter, will adding new bigger tips positively affect sound? A mechanic friend said I would burn valves without the back pressure in this newer engine, I've always been told that is a myth, any thoughts?

Thank you all I promise to update if I do anything!

I purchased several 45 degree stainless fittings from NeedsWings and easily kept both pipes on the drivers side passing by the rear end. I had great concerns of NOT running a HOT exhaust next to rubber fuel lines,fuel filter,pressure regulator and fuel pump. Just my personal concerns. Squirrel Crusher

That is Beaner's set up. I think some exhaust wrap in that area would take care of any heat issues. James

I like the looks of the dual setup with the 2 round mufflers and the fact you kept the tips from the original. What mufflers are those and are they very loud? I want to do a dual but don't want a loud exhaust. I am part of the header group buy from Rudy and think a dual back after the headers would be the best way to go. Can you tell me the brand or info on the mufflers?
Thanks,
Robert

Are there any disadvantages to doing both pipes on the drivers side? Anything that will make a significant difference?

Typical - the this thread would have been ideal a few weeks ago !!! Already booked in to have the silencer removed (though the cats will stay in situ) and replaced with straight pipes, will still have the OEM tips on the back though

Well, it's done, did it today at a local shop that I'm friendly with and when i first heard it start, i was entranced. I will hopefully have some clips this weekend and all that jazz.

What i ended up doing was cutting the "y" off right after rear cats and running dual 2.25" pipe both on the driver side of the differential and brought those into 2x2.25" dynomax bullets each with a beautiful 2.25" Jones racing oval tip.

Results, obviously a sound clip would be best bit until then, lets just say damn. That is loud and very deep. When you get up past about three to four grand, she starts to show an angry side with the higher frequencies shining through. Doesn't really sound ricey, more like a mild v8 or a euro car, just what i wanted.

Just for the record.. rear cats were cut out, Magnaflow X installed, 2 magnaflow mufflers, stock tips that are expanded to go with the larger 2½"pipe. Passed Ontario emissions standards.

Tried making a video. Not going to work from inside the car, to much bass for my little microphone. I'll see if I can get a hand tomorrow.

Beaner, what size mangnaflows did you use? 4 in rounds? Trying to fit in two bullets like you but want to leave some room near the sides. looks like a total of 12.5 in to work with when the old muffler is out. Did you also have enough room running lengthwise of the car? Wanna be sure I get a pair that fit

The mufflers I used are the same size as the cat back kit that magnaflow provides, BUT I went with 2½" instead of the 2¼" and I used my factory tips.

Here is the specs of the magnaflow cat back that is offered
V6 3.2L
5 x 14in. Muffler;

2.25in. Tubing;
5.5in. Polished Stainless Tip,
CENTER REAR EXIT

Thanks Beaner. Do you have any trouble with overheating on the passenger side where the fuel pump is? a little weary bout this.. Though having a dual would be awesome.

No signs of wear due to heat being so close to the lines/pump/filter. I did have to trim the plastic cover that protects the pump/filter...
