Default Cheap exhaust

Hey guys. Im 18 and on a budget, still paying off the loan i borrowed from my grandfather to buy my 05 6spd coupe. The first thing i want to do to my purchase, is what else, exhaust. I have heard that a good cheap way to modify the exhaust note (and add hp) is to buy a generic magnaflow muffler and have my local muffler-shop weld it in with my stock tips, as opposed to buying a whole system. What are your thoughts on this and do you have any other suggestions? any info appreciated.

no offense there's nothing cheap when it comes to modding these cars...i would save your money and buy the whole catback system to get the most value and HP out of it not just weld a muffler on unless you just want a different sound...

All that for only about 1HP? No way! There are a few posts about exhaust mods and power from them!

EDIT: Nothing cheap about modding these cars "right".. JC Whitney stainless steel glass pack on my Miata.. gives her a nice ricer sound..think it was about $45.. work on the Crossfire? .. not in my books.. but could work for others..

i dunno graphite when i got my magnaflow exhaust and installed it my xfire was stock and after i installed it i noticed more low end torque and more 3k-6k pull so it had to add something more then 1 HP i have no dyno proof but you get to know a car after you drive it awhile and when you add pieces you just know when they improve the overall performance...

There are a lot of others who have done complete exhaust mods on our cars. Please read the posts on them and don't count on your 'butt' meter. I believe a few have dyno'd those exhaust mods, your better spending on a tune from Eurocharged. In the end it's your $ so either do a lot more reading or go and do what you will. Good luck either way.

Drive the car and enjoy it, start paying grand dad back. When he's paid, buy all the exhausts mod you need, but you won't gain anything but sound. Not much HP coming from exhaust mods. Not for what you will spend.

On the NA, a CAI, larger injectors and a tune will net about 50hp and noticaably better performance. The Sprint Booster will help with shifting on the 6spd.

Btw, don't forget putting 330uf caps in the doors. By far the best bang for the buck mod on an XF.

You gain nothing but noise by throwing $$$ at the exhaust.

My car had the MagnaFlow catback already installed when I bought it, so I can't compare performance to stock exhaust.
However, I love the sound of the exhaust (minus the highway drone) and get A LOT of compliments on my exhaust note. One of my gearhead friends thought at first that it had a V8.

This is exactly why I left the exhaust at just a muffler. lol.... No noticeable power. I remember seeing the dynos somewhere from people getting the cat-backs, it was nothing to jump up about.

To the OP, if you want cheap somewhat interesting performance... remove the baffels inside the intake and all of the screens. Its somewhat noticeable for about ehhhhhhh a day maybe. I modified my inlets for my intake.. took out the housing, opened them up and extended them.
