Topping off the oil?

Default Topping off the oil?
I thought I read somewhere that one should not top off the oil in the NA cars...is that true?

The only thing I can think of that might (and its a big MIGHT) be a problem is if your car has dino oil in it and you try to add a non compatible synthetic, or vice-versa. Shouldnt cause a problem either way though.
