Mobil 1 filter vs. Mann filter vs. Purolator filter
Has anyone ever had all 3 in front of them and compared materials and method of construction? I have and find that the Mobil 1 is a bit more innovative (proper seals where the other 2 just have hard, flat surfaces) and what appear to be silicone o-rings (red, soft) in place of Buna-N (neoprene) which is acceptable, but not as good as Viton. The silicone should remain more resilient at temperature but is NOT recommended for use with synthetic lubricants. I would presume they would first swell, then disintegrate.
I will email Mobil 1 and ask what the material of the included o-rings is before I'll use them. Surely they will tell me?
I have all of the correct sizes in Viton in the drawer. The filters look first-rate.
BTW-I'm asking this because, as someone else pointed out, Advanced Auto has a coupon in the local flyer for 5+ jugs or 5 quarts of any Mobil 1 oil (0-40 in stock. Wow!) plus a Mobil 1 filter (any) , (not in stock, Wow!) for $29.99. Limit of 5 per customer. I was told the Mobil 1 filter is $12.99 alone. I bought 5 and I figure I'm golden until ~ 2024.
Of course, I'll have to wait until Tuesday for 3 of my filters. And a hamburger.

Ok. I guess if were a bit less SENILE, I would have just read the bleedin' box. Viton o-rings are used. I do not know why they are red, but I'm sure I'll find out when the Mobil 1 representative emails me back with instructions on how to READ THE BOX.
But, back to the question has anyone else looked these puppies over?

Oh, I plan to! New pacemaker going in on the 14th. I found out 2 days ago that my battery is dead. Whoopsie!
I suppose that if I got caught "excessively speeding" I could always tell the officer that I was trying to keep my heart rate up?

I will continue to use the MANN filters because I split a case of them from Needswings at a very reasonable price. I should be good on filters for about 5 years. When I buy the Mobil 1 oil specials, I just get a filter for one of my other 3 cars. It all works out.

Max good luck with your upcoming operation. Let's all hope your systems don't start acting up like the Crossfire does when the battery gets low.
Keep a close eye on your spoiler in case it just happens to" pop up" for no paticular reason.
1 hour in and out, so to speak!
Thanks, buddy!
Hope you are going to an independent shop and not a dealer ......

Dave, I figured it was a brand ID or something along those lines-the o-rings look to be the same shade as the end and internal seal surfaces. You should look at these-they are nicely made.

As you said the inside diameter is just a tight fit on the shaft, so it expanded quite a bit. There was a Chinese filter in the car when I got it and it was loose.
I'll look at the Mobil filter, I think i have seen them locally, trouble is in Canada you get ripped off on the prices, we (Sparkie) got the Mann filters from the US and split a ten pack. My local auto supply shop wanted $40 (down from $50 when I questioned the price) for a Wix filter, I laughed at him and said I could get three from the US for $40, shipping included. I'm not cheap but I hate getting ripped off.

Ummm,I'm confused (a little), I bought the 5 jugs/filters thing and those 5 jugs only give me three XF oil changes. Now if I change my oil as recommended, thats a max of three years given my driving milage style. Did you mean that you bought 5 sets of 5 jugs?, since that would equate to 15 years maximum at one change per year?

GG,
I was exaggerating-OK? I change once a year too-by time, not mileage.
Sheeesh!

Like I said, I was just a little confused. You have clarified, I should not take you seriousely, unless you indicate differently in the post.
It was a good question though, as 2024 is 12 years away it could have been 15 oil changes if you drove slightly more than the recommended oil change schedule.

Ghost, ya' wanna' hear really sucks?
20K in 5 years this month. When I said "...by time...", I really meant it!
No problemo, bud. Pre-coffee answer!
And, as for taking me seriously-are you serious?

Good Lord! That moon commute must really suck!
And to show exactly how observant I am:
Yes, I took a picture of the Spanish side of the box.
Observant...
