Does anyone know the size of the fuel rail inlet fitting?

If you tell me, you will get to see a nice writeup and pics of a fuel system upgrade: Walbro pump & regulator-less filter from Needswings, adjustable fuel pressure regulator under the hood, and wideband O2 logging.

That will calm my concerns of running lean before installing this 62mm supercharger pulley that is sitting in my garage. When I dyno'd last summer I was already lean (13.5 in midrange RPMs, dropping to 12.5 at redline) with my current engine mods (3" dual intake and 3" full exhaust basically).

 

Its called a size 6 Komatsu fitting. Google it. I got mine from a company called Pirtek. It has a 30 degree seat, a.n. won't work.

Holy crap. I work on heavy equipment and have had many problems working on Komatsu equipment due to their oddball sizes and flare angle. Wonder why in the world that fitting was chosen over the traditional JIC that is used in the entire rest of the world.

Oh well, good to know if I decide to start playing around.

Any chance the NA version of the motor uses the same style/size fittings?


Oh yeah, not that it matters but a size six is commonly referred to as a "dash 6" in the industry. Adapters and fittings can be found at most good hydraulic supply stores and are usually quite inexpensive.

 

I as well as most others I'm sure, would really like to hear and see your project here. I will more than likely be going down the same road in the near future. I am already getting used to the 62mm SC pulley and may stack with a 178.

I need to take an updated video though. I added a 3'' magnaflow glasspack muffler as a resonator ahead of the Flowmaster to cut down some of the high pitch resonance. I get a lot of compliments on the sound now.

 

How's the drone before and after installing hte additional glasspack?

 

The sound is MUCH improved. This is actually rev 3 of the exhaust.
Rev 1 was just the Super 40
Rev 2 I added a 4" stainless packed bullet resonator
Rev 3 I replaced the bullet resonator with a 5" glasspack magnaflow muffler

NOW I have the sound I was looking for. Deep, aggressive, breathy. It is still very loud; we are talking about a Super 40 here with no cats. I wouldn't really call it a drone, but it is loud even at a cruise. I drove it 12 hours each way to the beach last year and it was too long, my ears were tired by the end.

 

OK, bad news, the fuel rain inlet fitting is definitely NOTa Komatsu dash 6.

According to the Parker fittings catalog linked above, the Komatsu dash 6 should have M18x1.5 threads. The fuel rail fitting has M14 threads. That would be a Komatsu -4, except the threads are backwards. Look at the pic below. The Komatsu male flare has male threads, and the female flare has female threads. The fuel rail has a female flare, but male threads, and the hose has the male flare, but female threads.

This is a SLK32 AMG, but I would be surprised if the SRT6 would be different. I would be surprised if the fuel rail was different between the supercharged and NA engines also.

I went to pirtek a matched it up sorry maybe it is 4. They made me a hose with a female end and gave me a little cone with 30 degree angles to go in between.I have never seen the little ball that goes inside in any catalog, but they had it in stock.

 

Ok here is how I attached a fuel pressure gauge to the inlet. As you can see, the hole through the fitting is smaller than the inlet so I suppose you could try to drill it out. I split the rail and came in from the back.

I'm curious to see how/where you run the return line back to the tank.I have most of the fittings regulator and larger fuel line but got side tracked this winter with an f150.
