Evap System Inspection
I am getting a P0442 and P0456 code on the check engine light. The first thing i did was purchase a new gas cap, replace the old one and reset the codes. The CEL stayed off for about 2 weeks, then returned with the same 2 codes.
It is my understanding that the next step is to inspect the EVAP system for signs of damage or loose connections. And if nothing is found, I would need to take the car for an EVAP smoke test at the dealership or other shop.
Can anyone help me out on what hoses and connections to check for the EVAP system and where to find them?
The old gas cap was definately loose and I could wiggle it when tightened all the way. The new cap is much tighter and I does not have any side-to-side or up and down wiggle, but I did notice that if I pull it straight out, there seems to be some play. Is it worth trying yet another gas cap? Is there a way to make it seal tighter?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
