Exhaust recommendations
OK, I was wondering what the best performance exhaust might be. Would like some sound when I "step on it" - but no drone at all when cruising. Any recommendations??

The biggest power gain is to remove all 4 cats but it's not what I'd do for a daily driver. Headers don't make significant power on our cars. My "why not" guess would be it has to do with the cam profile of our cars. From sound clips I've heard on youtube and here I prefer the Ansa and Megan for tone.

I was thinking about Borla - as they seem to be almost as cheap as most..- but may just stick with what I have - seems to have a bit of a sound to it. (maybe just a hole in the exhaust system - LOL.) I am not a fan of a drone - got Magnaflow duals for my H2 - and sounds great most of the time - but trying to move something that big at 65 or 70 mph - just sets up a drone that drives me crazy.
The Borla Pro XS Turbo muffler does not drone, nor is it quiet. For me I'll give up a few ponies for a Mercedes sound, smooth and quiet. I wil
Do the rear cat hammer and chisel job and then look at the muffler,as I have not yet seem, what it really looks like. There are dual in and dual out mufflers available, as for the resonator, it stays. It is simply a affluent chamber to eliminate some of the nasty sounds.

The OBX catback still seems to be available from this vendor for $279 :
OBX Cat-Back Exhaust 2004-2006 Chrysler Crossfire 3.2L 04-06
I have had one installed for a year and a half now, just a bit of drone in the 60 - 75 range, but overall a smooth mellow sound.
( This a Chinese rip-off of the $800 Borla system, identical in every way including SS grade )

This has been the subject of several conversations and the consensus is that no one has gained more than a few HP. So go for the sound you want, and be happy. I am in the process of modifying my exhaust by deleting the back CATs putting in a Y pipe, then into a 3 in by 12 in resonator then 3 in into the muffler, bypassing the resonator. I think that the dual out system mods may actually flow too much, lowering the exhaust velocity, thus lowering the scavaging effect. By going from dual 2 1/4 to a single 3 inch may get the air velocity to a level that will aide in clearing the exhaust and maybe gaining a few HP.
I'm trying to remember .... I'll get close. Removing the cats gets most of the gains, leave them and any changes are for sound quality and not performance. The difference on my car was 16 hp from removing the 4 cats. Open downpipes (Needswings) moved the total to 26 hp. Open headers was another 7 hp. Headers with stock resonator back was 4 hp. So the resonator and muffler only cost you 3 hp. These are peak numbers. Some changes lost some low end torque. If I had to do it over again I'd go another route with my disposable income. I may, in the future, remove the resonator and muffler and put something light weight, but not for power gains. For weight savings only.

I've deleted the rear cats and "H" pipe and replaced them with an "X" pipe. Resonator remains in place and acts as the muffler since my muffler is also deleted. Resonator provides enough back pressure to be effective, yet allows more flow then the muffler. And NO DRONE, even without a muffler. Sound is very civilized until WOT, then she wails out the back, kinda like an uncorked Austin. The looks I get when I punch it next to some ricer who's revving away at the light is priceless.
You need an "X" pipe to eliminate the drone, and they are relatively cheap pricewise.
Here's the one I used... I went with the 2.25 in. SS model for under $40.

I plan to keep the muffler and delete the stock resonator and back CATs. I'm hoping that the single free flow resonator will keep it from droning. T had planned an X pipe but when I decided to go to the single 3 inch set up it didn't make sense so I am just using a dual 2 1/4 into 3 inch Y. Anybody know what the stock resonator weighs?

I'd go with this........
Daily driver
Universal JDM Weld on 2 5" Inlet Dual Square Tip Muffler Exhaust Chrome Canister | eBay
or this/ Race Application
Twin Cam Dual 3 5" Blue Slant Tip Axle Back Weld on Muffler Exhaust for Cirrus | eBay
have the local muffler shop chop it on the engine side of the resonator, hang it and fogeddaboudit.
Or pick your favorite muffler from here...

There will be some drone, but it's not an unwelcome tone for someone that is looking to modify the already very sweet sounding exhaust.

If your scared of that, I had to be talked into it and I saved hundreds and I'm happy....
Go with this!
It's cheap, its durable, and it's a copy of a much more pricey set up. Had this been available when I did mine, I would have had a hard time keeping the other $100 I saved by picking out a muffler with tips I liked.

Hi,
I'm looking into removing my secondary cats but can't see them ! I've jacked the car up, can see the rear muffler and what look like 2 cats under the seat area. Are secondaries a US thing ? Mine is UK spec.
