Default Weird plastic in engine...

Ok guys, I am finally having my Knocking in my motor worked on...praying i can get the 3.7 to replace it . So the engine is tore down and I find a few pieces of this plastic stuck in the oil pump filter. Any ideas what it may be from? I know its not a gasket from the valve covers..its hard and has a definant shape to it. Its round but has a square shape to it if that makes any sense.

Oil filter or valve cover gasket ? Looks like a gasket of some sort. Anything leaking ? Has the intake manifold been off ? Note the valve covers are powder coated so probably removed at some point.

I know its not from the intake or the valve covers. It looks like something from maybe the front or rear seals..maybe? It looks to be the right size if it was complete.

So max, if those pieces impedes enough oil flow do you think it could cause the tapping? I do notice it more when stopping ,like the oil is shifting and maybe not getting enough coverage.

I just know I miss driving it, even though I have 800 new choices on the lot I can take home. F150, F250...etc.. mustangs just not the 2015 yet.

I would suggest the tapping could come from a lack of oil...I would have to hear it to be sure.

It kind of looks like the oil filter I had disintegrate one time when I changed my oil. The whole filter innards went and tore up and small plastic parts were in the filter housing at the bottom. Took a while to get them out, I found the inner filter tore up along the shaft where it mounted. Check the filter that came out.

Repeat after me:

"One should never, ever use a hydraulic press to mount cylinder heads".

That's awful. Track that peckerwood down. For all of us...
