Default Engine knocking and ticking

Right guys...rather than try and explain my engine noises i thought i would try put on a video.....please click on the link below
The engine was up to temp
Tick over on 700-800 rpm.
think the ticking is the fuel injectors but its the knocking that is the worry, it doesnt go up with revs well cant hear it, and is louder when the engine is warm.
..it has had a good oil change, full spec oil synthetic, air filters etc,

Any ideas from your wealth of knowledge or is this terminal

It's hard to tell from the video, at least with my old ears and the poor sound system on this little laptop. Any warning lights? From what I could hear, it didn't alarm me.

What kind of fuel are you running? The higher octane?

Try using a mechanics stethoscope (or a 3' length of rubber hose to your ear) and see if you can isolate the location. Then, take the serpentine belt off and start it up. Does the noise go away?

I almost think I hear a knock at about :09 other than that, the noises I heard sound fine and normal.

Are you saying you are running low octane gas? Here in the USA, our manuals tell us to run 91 octane or higher.
Im unsure if your octane numbers are on the same scale.

Our 91 octane here in the states = 96 RON Euro

If you have the option in the UK, try running a higher octane; let us know what happens.

Regular, that is a no no with the higher compression engines, can cause detonation, the engine is probably has alot of timing retard.
If you have the torque app there is a knock detector either already on app or a add on for it that checks for detonation, which is good for boosted engines.

The ticking sounds normal to me. The knocking could be a lot of things. Like was mentioned earlier, eliminate the pulleys by removing the belt and starting the car to see if it's still knocking. If it's gone, it's in one of the pulleys or tensioner. If it's still knocking get out a stethoscope to locate the source. (Yes, you figure it out)

Part of me really wonders how a bossted and a NA version of the same engine need the same octane. Particularly when the 3.6 V6 in my Jeep has 290hp @6400 rpm, higher compression (10.2 vs 10.0) and runs on either 87 PON or E85.

I do run 89 usually and 93 occasionally but just ran down to Boynton and back at left lane speed and careful fillup said 27 mpg. Was just about perfect conditions, windows up and 55 degree weather, cruise on and winding too high in 6th. Uses no oil. Long trips are nice now that I can stretch out arms and legs so return was nonstop.

If I recall correctly during our latest turbo adventure.. the "same engine" has a difference in compression between them.

The ticking sound is usually the EVAP PURGE SOLENOID mounted on the left fender. James

Thanks for all your replies

regards fuel yes currently got UK unleaded at 95 RON (Research octane number)

will have to try super unleaded uk 98 RON...about $2 us a gallon but if that what it takes,

will check the pullies etc , the weather here is turning now and little day light but will update when i can, the knocking is only noticeable on the right top part of the engine when you look at it ...but all suggestions worth a try

Kev

Torque app is worth getting, it also reads any engine codes that might come up, app $5, obd bluetooth adapter $15, knock detector for torque is free.

Wouldn't hurt to throw in a can of Seafoam into the gas tank on your next fillup.
