Default Newbie with a Diff query

Hello All,

I've recently bought a 2004 Crossfire with 40k on the clock and am enjoying the car. There is a whirring sound at roughly 75mph coming from what sounds like the diff. I have read that this is a common fault which would have been a warranty issue. On this forum there is a mixed opinions about whether to ignore the problem or to rectify it. Pre-buying the car I did have in my mind that I fancied a LSD diff and was going to inquire anyway. I think I have the bolt on diff. Also i don't have warranty. What I would like to know is:

-If my diff is the bolt on type can I convert my diff to have LSD?
-If so, would the whirring issue go?
-If It can't be converted does anyone out there manufacture a LSD diff to bolt straight on?
-If so, how much does it cost?

Thank you in advance for your replies. Sorry if this has been posted before but there is a lot of info to read.

yes
probably
yes - WaveTrac
around $1200 ( plus installation and shipping charges to UK )

BUT! worn rear tires as a result of incorrect camber will also cause whirring sound.

Thank you for the replies.

The noise happens only when cruising/accelerating at roughly 75-80 and the whirring disappears once my foot is off the gas pedal. This issue can be bearings or tyres? That seems odd? When I get a chance i'll jack the car up and check the wheel bearings. The car needs a service anyway.

(Can not see a thanks box to tick on this forum for your replies)

I've had that sound since I got mine at 17,000 miles / 8 years ago.
Changed the diff oil at 60,000 for maintenance reasons only but the sound never went away
I don't think its anything to be concerned about as many here have the same sound and have for years with the OEM diff.
I'm past 100,000 miles now and still cruising the highways all the time with out worry

Thank you for your reply. That's reassuring to hear. Did you change the diff oil yourself?
