Default Question for the electron gods

A question for the 'tron wizards. Does the signal to the supercharger that engages the clutch originate in the throttle body or in the sender unit at the pedal?

Neither. The PTCM runs the show, period.

Pin 1 of connector C1 at the PTCM goes to ground to engage the S/C clutch. As to how the PTCM makes the decision to engage the clutch, it is my understanding that the S/C engages at a certain RPM.

I wonder if I am right here.

It seems to me that it engages at a certain throttle condition, regardless of RPM, that's why I'm asking. I know it's throttle is by wire but it seems to me that the signal to the SC comes from the small control unit in the throttle body with the little wipers on it. Sorry, I didn't take the time to look it up, not sure what it's called. I'm sure somebody has knowledge of how this functions. I'll try to take a look at the schematics and see if I can make heads or tails of it.

The wiper thing is the TPS, Throttle Position Sensor. It serves to tell the PTCM what the current state of the butterfly valve opening is so it can then decide to add or subtract throttle depending upon it's current mood.
The PTCM looks at throttle pedal position, intercooler temperature, RPM and the current alignment of Earth and Mars and a slew of other things to decide if it wants to engage the supercharger.

Don't forget the polarity of the flux capacitor in relation to the earths axis, very important!

Hi George!

Hi George!

Ahh yes.. much like oil quenching for tempering a hand forged sword while pointing it west will end up in a right handed curve..

By George, I think you got it. Are you working on the 'slipping" clutch theory? My take on it is the material used, not the magnet. Just sayin'.....
