Default SRT-6 Gearbox Issues

I have a 2004/2005 SRT-6 Roadster here in South Africa which has done 88.000 kms and which is playing up. I am not a technical guy so please bear with me when it comes to technical issues. This is what typically happens:
When the car is cold she runs nicely and performs well. Drive for 30 minutes and stop at a petrol station and turn the engine off upon restarting the automatic gearbox stays in the P position. Once released via a pen and put into Drive position the car goes into limp home mode.
We have changed the shifter twice and have replaced the gearbox temperature sensor / plate with a new one. To no avail. I also had the gearbox reset via a diagnosis tool. Still no change.
My current garage is talking of changing a box (computer box?) but this hasn't yet happened.
Where should we be looking next?
Thanks for any input.

As far as the releasing the “pin” to get into drive I’m not sure what that means. Limp mode can be caused by many things. Has your car thrown any codes? Even if it hasn’t I’d still hook it up and see if there’s a code that pops up. Have you changed the Intercooler Pump ever? The OEM ones from the factory have been known to be faulty for just about everyone. There’s an upgraded ICP. Here it is. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...g-0392022010kt. If your original hasn’t gone yet it will. Maybe explain the “pin” part a little more. I’m confused as to what you are referring too.

You really need to get the car scanned using Mercedes software. Go to an independent garage that specializes in European/Mercedes cars. The proper scanner goes much deeper than the ordinary OBD II scanner, and will get you going in the right direction, and probably tell you the exact part that is failing with the part number for a repair. Just guessing and throwing parts at the car is frustrating and too expensive, Get the car scanned properly.

The owner's handbook explains how to release the automatic shifter if it becomes locked in Park. Essentially, there's a locking mechanism that needs to be depressed at the base of the shifter cover plate and the shifter can then be moved to another selection..

Limp mode is when the car only uses 2nd gear and will not exceed something like 50 mph, it will use no other except reverse. If the car changes gear then it is not in Limp Mode.
The car will be very sluggish. As mentioned it could be the Intercooler pump but that would not be a problem from initial start but appear after a few miles, in this case the supercharger air would become too hot and the supercharger would be cut off from working.
You know how to get it out of the park position, this is caused by a cable going from the gear shifter too the ignition switch becoming broken or unadjusted.
In my signature there is a link to ‘Index to Crossfire problems....” in red. You can find the Service Manual and a lot of info on the car, you should look there.
Get a scanner and read of sny codes have been set.

If the car won't come out of park due to the solenoid not letting the shift move, I'd suspect the traction control relay in the Relay Control Module (RCM).

Swap the RCM between your two cars and see if that makes the issue move to the other car - if so, BINGO! Bad RCM.

RCMs come out WITHOUT TOOLS, just slide the cover off the box and unplug the RCM.
