if its a single turbo kit, it doesn't mean its spools quickly. it depends on the trim on the impeller side.
however, there a reason why people go single turbo,it is big power. that's what they are after, they are not concerned per say with drivability of the car. that's why turbo supras and skyline that want 1000 horsepower, go to single turbo. example why porsche went from 930 single turbo to 993 and 996 twin all in the name of drivability. if anyone of you have ever drove a 930 turbo you will understand what I mean. when you first take off, there is no power but mind you as soon as that turbo kicks in, make sure your straight if not you will be spinning. also do a search on turbo and boost, matter of fact pick up the book called Maximum Boost by Corky Bell, its explains how more psi is not always the answer.

Also twin turbo setups usually spool quicker since they are usually smaller turbos.

This "it's an auto" nonsense is getting quite old. With the current times for new SLK V-6's posting a .1 second better 0-60 times with a stick over the autoshift this view has no backing.

Only reason I have ever heard that made an ounce of sense of one over the other was the fact the owner preferred the "feel" of the stick to the auto. I 100% agree to that but since this car (SRT-6) doesn't have the option of a pure stick there's no rational reasoning for custom fabbing a manual transmission to the car.

So if your looking at straight performance, the guy with the manual can "feel" his car all day long but this will not change the fact that the guy with the autostick will walk away the winner every time given that the autostick guy used his mod budget on some real power mods while the manual guy got his "stick"...

In drag racing, the automatic becomes man's best friend...it's consistent, has the ability to always shift at redline, and it can shift faster than any human can. But, I am not too fond about the automatic transmission simply because they make the driving experience less involving. Plus, only few things are more satisfying than hearing the blip of the throttle and a perfectly executed downshift. People may argue that autostick feature of the SRT-6 does the same thing, but having the clutch there makes the downshift that much more satisfying.

maybe in high horsepower situations, and we are talking custom auto trannies, not stock ones. manuals from the factory almost always rev higher and can be shifted much faster than an auto, and eurorev, thanks for saving me from having to make the same statement about tt's spooling faster.

Cold hard facts though is that Mercedes does not have a performance many that can used in the SRT/SLK32 setup. So any transmission used would have to be custom fabbed job that would take mucho time and mucho money and would provide little gains over the autostick unless your plans are to transform the car into a full-spec'd racer...
