Exclamation Prices

Hey all,

I figured i'd save server space and kinda ask one general question about a bunch of topics i've read in here. Now i have a 05 limited roadster, and I personally think it needs about a hundred more HP. Now aside from splurging and getting a supercharger just like all of you i'm sure i'd like to get headers, cam, ported heads, ignition, chip, over sized pistons, etc... From reading some of the threads are you people serious about the prices of the parts. I mean I saw headers for over a grand, for 6 tubes mandrel bent and welded together for over one thousand dollars, and a cam, for over a thousand dollars. Chrysler is mopar, I used to have a 96 ram, I put on headers, a purples cam, and 2 RT heads that I ported my self for under $2,500. I cant believe that these relatively cheap parts are so expensive. Whats the deal here?

During your searches you should have discovered the Crossfire is based on the old MB R170 foundation thus the higher prices on parts including aftermarket ones.

Quick answer to your question... The Crossfire is a 5 year old MB SLK320 with a different skin. Very few people who originally bought the SLK230 or 320 ever attempted to do mods. to the extent that you (WE) are interested in, thus the aftermarket (performance) manufacturers never saw a market to do widespread R&D and supply parts.

It's simple economics, demand drives the supply, If you want a set of headers for your car, more than likely, they will have to be a one-off and will cost you dearly... If you buy mods from the few MB performance companies (Renntech, Kleeman, Carlsson, Startech) you're paying for their R&D because they aren't selling enough to offset the costs that they incurred when they took the gamble to produce performance parts for the SLK...

Good luck finding performance parts for the car at a reasonable price...

Are you talking about the 2.3 liter S/C 4 banger?

Pulleys, ECU, and some headers (again, on the more pricey side) are the major upgrades to them. But remember your starting out around 189 - 192 hp. so dyno wise, even after all the above you looking at around a true 230 - 240ish hp rating. That's only 15-20 more hp then your stock numbers.
