Exclamation Intermittent Start Issues

With the aid of this forum, I have been chasing an intermittent start issue on my 2008 Crossfire for a while now.

The problem is:
  • If I insert the key straight in and start the engine, it will start and die almost 100% of the time.
  • If I give the car a little kick while trying to start, it will start up just fine.
  • If I leave the key in for about 10-20 seconds, the engine will start about 90% of the time.
  • After 2-3 starting attempts, the car will no longer crank for a variable amount of time. The dash will light up just fine, though.
  • Once the car is on, the idle is perfect and runs / drives; it has never stalled on me.
What I have tried to fix it:
  • New Fuel Pump / Filter (all high-end OEM from rockauto)
  • Sparkplugs
  • Resoldered RCM and checked relays (the contacts look shiny, and no soldering issues were found, but I resoldered all of the pads)
  • Bosch Crank Position Sensor (I also have a cam position sensor on the way)
  • Mass airflow sensor
  • New AGM Battery
I have had the car for over a year now, and this issue has gotten progressively worse over time. With some of the repairs making a difference (could be a placebo effect), but a few weeks later, coming back.

My next ideas are:
  • New CAM position sensor
  • Clean the throttle body.
  • Check fuel pressure
  • Check the starter motor.
  • Check the clutch position switch.
  • SKREEM (I don't believe it is. Giving it gas starts the car just fine.)

Please let me know if I am missing something obvious!

Also, if anyone has a source for the 07/08 SRS module, that would be greatly appreciated!

In my opinion. I think that your RCM may be the issue. Even though you have soldered the pins, the relays could be bad.
If your car is not a daily driver, I would suggest that you send your RCM out to @tighed1 to have it refurbished.
The price is about a 3rd of a new one and your horn will work without the key in the ignition.
You might want to try swapping one from another car if you can, or buy one on amazon and try it. You can always return it or keep it as a spare.

Send me your RCM to get it rebuilt to eliminate the RCM as a cause.
Email tighed1@hotmail.com for the details.
