Default 1st thing in the morning.

Are all 3.2 Crossfire's tappets a bit noisy when you start them 1st thing in the morning or is it just mine?

Maybe worth letting the Chrysler garage have a look./listen to them at the next service or before...I know I would.

Mine sits in the garage for weeks at a time and it very loud for about a minute then quits down. Mine has 3k on it. I thinking of taking it in when I get it out next spring.

Mine was in storege for 14 months without a run. Might be some thing to do with it?

Hopefully any problems found will be covered by the Chrysler warranty I took

OK. Took the Xfire into my local Chrysler dealer with the intention of leaving it there over night so they could listen to the tappets first thing in the morning. Courtsey car was booked for me to use. I was just about to leave when the service manager said, why don't we start up one of the Crossfire's that we have in stock to see if it's got the same problem, if its the same there's no point in leave yours with us. Outside was an 2007 coupe with 3K on the clock and had been standing for 2 days. Flicked the key and good news, it was just the same as mine.

I guess I am fortunate then cause mine is completely quiet on cold starts and all the time. I have 27000 miles on my 04 and it starts and runs quiet all the time. I started it this morning and it was 23 degrees outside and about 50 degrees in my garage and no tapping at all.

I am using Mobil 1 0W40 oil

I don't think they are all the same. I just needed to know that mine was OK. And now if I have a problem it was recorded that I reported it.

Mines is a 2005 (55 plate) manual with 36K, well maintained and never thrashed. Love the car but the engine has always been slightly tappety for a minute or two after start-up from cold, though probably more noticeably now compared to when it was new. I asked my Chrysler dealer to look at this when it was in for a service recently and they said their oil change had made it less noisy (they kept it overnight to check on start up the next morning). I didn't notice much difference and to be honest I think its just a fact of life/occassional issue with the MB 3.2 unit. Once warmed up after a few minutes the engine idles quietly and smoothly, and performs great.
Having said all that I seem to recall one or two members in the States having their lifters etc replaced under warranty, given enough persistence! Might be worth a try if the problem is severe. If mines gets worse I will ask them to look at it again whilst my warranty is still in place.
My main concern at present is a very faint whiff of burning oil now and again, which I hope isn't a leaking gasket.....!

My '04 coupe does the tick-tick-tick in the mornings, too though I've read someone around here that it just might be noisy injectors.
