That's a bunch of Hooey!. It sounds like and automated telephone response. I wonder if they have an automated email system the looks for key words in your email and then take the best shot at an answer. Neither of the responses above seem to address the problem in a "Human" capacity. Seems very automated to me.

2 Cents.

I got my car back today and they inspected my doors for rust.
Said mine was clean and dry.
They also said my seal was a single solid piece with no breaks/joints so there was nothing for the moisture to work its way into.

Have you checked it yourself?

No. Is it easy to check? If so, I'll check it when I get to Kansas City this weekend.

i am going to apply "por15" to the effected area (track/lip)... to penetrate & seal the rust. i will follow-up with completed pics this week.

see product link: http://www.por15.com/s.nl/it.A/id.1404/.f

for the time being... i rubbed out the area (removing surface rust the best i could) and heavily waxed the seam.
With all of the new members this may be a good time to bring up a sad thread. I now have some rust whereas mid summer 2007 they were fine. My POR15 is waiting for some warmer weather for an application.

Glad you reposted this. I just got my SRT and live in the Portland, OR area. I will be under both cars tomorrow to check them and take repair or preventative action. Thanks again.

Okay. I went and looked at mine. I need to go buy some Pro15 or Rust Bullet. Not bad, but there are some small rust spots. Thanks again.

I didn't read the entire thread, because I am lazy. But, I did go out and check and didn't find any rust, just mold/mildew, because I am in FL. When I went to re-install the weatherstrip, I found it wasn't easy going in. Then I thought to my self, "How do you stop rust, you oil the surface" So I got a little motor oil Mobil-1 of course, put some on my finger, and lubed the area on the door, and then a little on the weatherstrip for ease of instalation. This should prevent rust from forming, because it doesn't have a stabile surface to grow on. I hope this helps out people who don't have rust yet, and want to prevent it.

Glad you made this a sticky, sure enough checked mine and I have little rust. What's surprising is the fact I'm in Colorado (dry climate) never has the car been out in the snow, and only has been in 2 rain showers, and I have rust, go figure.

I checked mine last night and found that the gasket fits over a small 90* lip. You have to kind of roll it in. Then getting the top edge in is a little tricky just using your fingers. Using a credit card or similar plastic tool would probably make it easier.

Also, I would suggest that you do not use motor oil, or other petroleum based oil on the gasket. It will break down the gasket over time. As someone earlier said, silicon spray would be better. I still have to find some POR15 or Rust Bullet to seal this area.

Mike - I bought the POR-15 Super Starter Kit in Clear. First sign of warm weather and I have my first project of spring.

I was just out trying to find some and no luck. I will go to their site and order the Super Starter kit also. That is more than enough to do both my cars.

~ i used an old expired credit card (as another mentioned) to aid in replacing the seal... this did help.

Ok I have some new for you guys. On my 1st crossfire I had very little rust, just a bit, I decided to treat it myself with por 15, it took about 3 hours to do it correctly, and since my car is black I purchased the black por 15, and it seems to have done the trick. This summer I will treat the passenger side of that car. Then I'll forget about it, and monitor it every few months to make sure its dry and not rusting.

Now on my other car, the rust is much worse! I called Chrysler they told me to bring in the car and tell the dealer to fix the rust. They said it was covered under warranty. The 1st time I brought it to the dealer, they said they had to take pictures and send it to chrysler to get "approval". After weeks & weeks of me calling (and no call backs) they said chrysler changed their policy and I had to get an estimate from the body shop sent to Chrysler. I already showed the bodyshop (where this dealer uses to do their work) my rust and they sent over the estimate to the dealer. Then I waited a few more weeks, no response! Now I started to get mad! I stopped in again with my car and spoke to the service guy, he informed me Chrysler again supposedly changed their policy and a rep had to see my car to inspect the rust! After another 2 months and numerous times I went there with my car for normal service. I demanded to see the service manager, he started the rep would be there the next day. The next day The rep viewed the rust and he said he'll call me in 2 hours with the decision. I told him Chrysler already said its covered, but I'll wait for his call. After 4 hours no call back, I called the service manager. He said he had no info, he'll call me the next day. The next day he didn't contact me. At the end of the day I called him. He 1st said I had to bring it back to the dealer I bought it from to have it fixed. I said that's not going to happen and if they can have it fixed then you guys can fix it also. He stated that he's not going to fix the rust. I explained to him I bought 3 cars from his dealership and brought my cars in numerous times for service. He didn't care. I told him I will be contacting Chrysler and I'll have them deal with him. Now my car has only 5,000 miles on it, its in mint condition (except for a dent this dealer put in it which they still have to fix). The next day I called Chrysler and explained my situation, they in turn called the service manager and spoke to him. They then told me that the rust won't be covered because it was an "environmental cause" In other words it was my fault that the rust formed. I let the moisture get in there possibly along with road salt and grime! I explained to Chrysler that this rust was forming under the weather-stripping and there's no way it was an environmental cause, but was a defect in the design. I asked to speak to the supervisor at Chrysler, then after a few minutes they said they will request the files from my dealer and try to get it covered under warranty! Now I'm waiting for Chrysler! If they know what's good for them they'll cover this rust problem. Regardless of all this I still love my crossfire! I'll keep you all posted on what happens.

Paragraphs are your friends.
Back on topic, this is why I think all members on the forum who have had this problem should sign a petition (i.e. demand) to have the vehicles fixed.

Hey!

I can tell you about rust. The rust has started in the joint where both parts of metal are joined together, you can clean and paint back the joint but eventually it will comeback.

Nothing can be done to prevent that.

Sorry from a bodyshop manager.

Checked mine, no rust. Also, I checked it, noticed the seal was moist. Dried the seals and the door jamb that it goes into. Then washed the car and checked again. Sure enough, washing the car filled up areas where the seal goes in with water. I dried it again and reinserted the seals. I already received my por15 starter kit. Question I have is since I don't have any rust at all, can I still use the por15 on the painted surface?

In reading on the Por15 website I think that in our case it may work. The manufacturer doesn't recommend putting it over paint since if the moisture gets under the original paint it's going to rust and all come off. However, in our case since the moisture is getting to the unprotected metal from the outside in I think that it has a good chance of working. It all depends on how well the prep kills the rust.
