Default Anyone interested in chrome roll bars

I contacted a chroming company today that is willing to chrome our OEM roll bars. He indicated that it will cost around $150 plus shipping. They will be triple chromed and come with a 4 year warranty. He said he will get back with me with a exact price tomorrow. I'll post the information when I receive it. I asked about the plastic pull handles but they can not chrome plastic.

Cool Re: Anyone interested in chrome roll bars

I would also be interested, but I think the cover on our roll bars is plastic.

What plastic cover are you talking about? I thought they were steel painted silver. They can not chrome plastic. Mines in storage, if someone could check it out tonight that would be great. Anyways I spoke to Kevin today and he has asked me to send mine in for chroming to see what's involved in chroming them. I sent him a picture of the roll bars on our crossfires and he said if there is enough interest he's thinking he should be able to come in with a price under $100. He wants to do a set to be sure. I'll have to send them to him in Ca. so it will be a couple weeks to get a firm price. Anyone interested in these please indicate it on this thread so we can see how many are interested. Again the entire roll bar will be triple chromed and come with a 4 year warranty.

Put me on the list Frank.

I took mine out this morning, and they are not plastic coated. They are metal all they way, with a paint finish, or some sort of finish like nickel or something, but not plastic at all.

For the price Frank is talking about (more or less) it's a bargain. Frankly (no pun intended) I'm surprised some of you chrome lovers are not all over this.

Again, count me in Frank.

Frank, I forgot to ask what's the plan?

Cool Re: Anyone interested in chrome roll bars

Did a little test today on the roll bars, made a little scratch at the bottom were the rubber grommet sits. It seems to me that the roll bars are steel with some sort of plasticized coating/paint rather than a cover. I have a contact at Karmann Gmbh, maybe she can find out exactly what they are made of might take a while though. I have had my eye on the CTD-Germany chrome roll bars for quite a while and will more than likely go that way, would like to find something cheaper in price though. A member of our forum GTA87 has the CTD-Germany chrome roll bars on his Roadster, he is extremely happy with the quality and fit and said they are definitely worth the expense.

Frank, can we experiment? Send them your bars, and I'm sure your contact can see if they are chromable. I'm willing to share the shipping charges with you so that you don't pick it all up.

I talked with Kevin Friday and he is going to take a look at mine. I'll be sending them out the first of the week. for those who have chromed wheels, this is the company in CA. that chromes the crossfire wheels. I have a set and they are top notch. F.P. with all this talk about plastic coverings on the roll bars I trudged thru the snow to my garage to take a look for myself. I put the top 1/2 down to expose the bottom part of the roll bar were it attachés to the car to see for myself. I took a knife and scraped it down to the metal. I appears to me to be painted. Maybe a powder coat to give it such a smooth finish but it is not plastic. I'll keep you updated and send pictures when they return them. I just thought more folks would be interested since it's about $350 less then the replacement ones.

I know Frank, It's better than just a good deal. It's a bargain. Once you confirm that they can be chromed, I bet there will be a great deal of interest.

Just had a Friend of mine who is familiar with metal finishes, and says it is powder coated just like the wheels.

F.P. - Thanks for the confirmation on the powder coat paint. That's what I thought it looked like too. I'll get these shipped this week and get back with the forum members when I get them back.
