Default Installed: Rieger Side Skirts

Hey X-Fire heads. Just recently, I had a pair of Rieger side skirts installed on the Crossfire. They were originally made for the SLK 170, but with some cutting and welding, my body shop was able to install them. You can check out the results by clicking on the images below (BTW, I didn't take the pics at the most ideal location, so I hope you all don't mind the somewhat drab background ^^).

[Edit: I have also posted additional pics (including custom front lips) as well ~ please check Page 2 of this thread]

Very nice indeed.

You said you had to do some cutting and welding. Can you explain what exactly was done? Aren't they just a "plastic" replacement for the standard rocker panel? I assume the mounting holes were in a different location, but did you have to alter the length?

Are they "taller" (lower) than the stock panel? It looks like you have less clearance now.

SRT SIX ~ I guess "welding" is not the correct word, but cutting definitely is. These side skirts are not replacement parts but rather, they are add-ons. The products themselves are made of ABS Plastic, meaning they are quite flexible ~ on top of adding them to the original panel, my bodyshop constructed a support frame so that the side skirts would not bend or rattle in anyway. Also, although the SLK and Crossfire share the same platform and sport the same wheelbase, the product was not an exact fit. The attachment points were all off by about a centimeter or so. In addition, the construction of the door sill area must be different between the SLK and Crossfire, cuz the attachment points were all off there as well. My bodyshop had quite a handful to deal with, but at the end, they managed to pull through.

The side skirts are ALOT lower than the standard OEM panels. Since my car is already lowered with Eibach Pro's, this implies only one thing : DRIVE REALLY CAREFULLY ON INCLINES, RAMPS, SPEED BUMPS, THE WHOLE WORKS.

Due to its lower side clearance, I had to install custom front and rear lips to match the overall lower line of the vehicle (they are not pictured ~ I will post new pics as soon as possible).

In short, if you can manage to find a trustworthy bodyshop to handle the side skirts, I highly recommend them to all members. It definitely gives the X-Fire an upgraded "DTM" look.

Really appreciate your compliments guys.

The next pics are hot off of my camera. Custom Hamann-style front lips have been installed in order to accommodate for the lowered side skirts.
I was worried that it may look a bit ricer-ish, but I think the end product is more "Euro" than "Ricer"... fortunately for me. ^^

Enjoy.

Thumbs up Re: Installed: Rieger Side Skirts

That IMO is one of the best and cleanest body mods that any one on the forum has done to date ! Keep up the good work, and if you can let the rest of use know what parts you used and were to get them.

May be difficult since I purchased the Rieger side skirts from an official Rieger dealer here in Korea, but I do know for a fact that there are several authorized Rieger dealers who sell these products online in both the US and UK.

The most important thing is to find a reputable bodyshop that will take the time and effort to make sure the piece fits correctly on to our beloved X-Fires.

As for the front lip, an aero parts maker here in Korea was able to make a mold that fit the SRT-6 bumper, basing it off the Hamann front lip made for an E39 M5. Not sure if they are willing to sell these products overseas but I will make sure to find out. The price for the front lips were $300, UNPAINTED. Hope this helps...

The vented side skirts are not bad either! (Not sure about fitment though)...

Looks amazing really like it a lot but how are you going to get the car in the air on a lift? It looks like it covers the jack points...

You are right... the days of changing my tires by myself are over... ^^
All car-related work must now be done on a hydraulic lift at my regular
tuner's garage. Even that is tedious work since they have to make sure the
lift platform doesn't "crush" the side skirts by carefully placing spacers in the
appropriate points underneath the car.

I figure its a small price to pay considering the end product!

The factory jack points have fasteners in the center. Take them out and have a shop fabricate some new 'feet' to be place in position with longer fasteners and the old rubber pads. this way your jack points are still in the same location, but they are just below or the same height as the side skirts.

Looks wonderful!

Thanks for the new desktop!!! I would love to see someone do a professional photo shoot with your car - has it been in any car mags?

Haha ~ that's the biggest compliment EVER for my car... Unfortunately, there is a severe shortage of "domestic tuner magazines" here in Korea... the only car that receives any publicity is the 500 - 600 HP Hyundai Tiburon's running rampant all over Korea.

I have to admit though... some of them are pretty damn fast...
